I bought my Soc from Perlas last year, to reward myself during a torturous month at the office.

It took me another three months to decide how to have it set. I found a pre-loved drop pendant, set in 14K WG, to which I could attach my SoC. Then when I instructed my jeweler to set the pearl asymmetrically, she just did not "get" it. There was a lot of going back and forth until we reached a compromise...and here it is.

Very unique, thanks for sharing!

Gorgeous. That is a lovely way to give the SoC setting more bling and yet allow the pearl to be the center of attention. Well done!

Thank you, ladies.

Every now and then, I second guess myself, especially on the asymmetrical setting. I need to remind myself that the unique shape was what drew me to that particular mabe, and your kind words are a great reassurance.

cyndayco -- what did you mean by your original instructions to set it "asymmetrically"? What was your vision?

I enjoy seeing one of Douglas' mabes oriented in a unique way. Wear your new pendant in health!

BAS, by "asymetrically", I meant close to the way it's set now, except with the metal less visible.

The jeweler initially hung the mabe from the pointed end, like a tall Hershey's Kiss, then from the narrowest rounded end, like a heart or a mango. (Filipino metalsmiths abhor irregular shapes and textures.)

Certainly, these two options were more balanced, but I wanted something more dramatic and unusual. The jeweler relented but insisted on the prongs/pincers to keep the mabe secure.

Very elegant and the pearl is amazing! Excellent job and I hope you wear it often and in the best of health!

Wow, that SOC mabe has such gorgeous colors! It reminds me a bit of the play of fire across a really great black opal.

The long setting is so unusual and elegant -- great job!
