The forum has been strangely silent regarding Tucson/AGTA this year, notwithstanding the terrible tragedy there last week.

Who's going? Any Pearl-Guide activities to be planned?

Anyone going and not signed up for the AGA Conference should consider registering in order to attend the star-studded pearl program during the morning session on February 2.

Hi all.
Elisabeth Strack will give her yearly pearl seminar at 1pm Saturday in the Mojave Room at the Tuscon Community Center. That could be a great day to go to the TCC-based AGTA show in the morning, grab a snack then go to Strack's lecture, Then go across the street to the GJX Pavillion for the afternoon.

There has always been time to go the the commercial pearl tent shows or to the Holidome or to the Windmill bead show. I don't know about the free shuttles between them. They were cut back last year.

Jeremy is in China. I have not communicated with him at this point.

Anyone who is here for more than a Saturday pearl walk might want to check out Tom Stern's seminars. He will be at the the hotel across another street from the TCC. His program for the week is on his natural pearl thread. All his events will be regarding natural pearls.

If paid before Jan 16th, the conference costs $240 for non-members, less for members, more after the 16th. I will be sorry not to get to see those luminaries and hear Scarrett in person.

Just an FYI -- it costs $50 to bring a guest into the AGTA show now. :(

I haven't thought about Tucson yet this year, but I haven't missed it for years! I'm still in China but headed to Hong Kong later today. It's been an interesting trip and I am bringing back some show and tell.

Safe travels. Maybe a Pearl-Guide dinner/show and tell? Monday the 31st and Tuesday the 1st are my available dates.

Sigh. Someday I'll make it there. Just can't swing it this year. Post pictures if you can!!

Hello P-Gers! I haven't posted here in quite some time, but was just thinking of all of you when I saw a gem show ad on t.v. I am not sure what kind of evening activities you all have planned while in Tucson, but if any of you are looking for an excuse to get dressed up and don your finest pearls, I now play in the Tucson Symphony and am able to get free tickets to our concerts. On 2/11 (8pm) and 2/13 (2pm), we're doing Liszt (Mephisto Waltz no.1 and the 1st piano concerto with Terrence Wilson) and Ravel (Rapsodie Espagnole and La Valse). Anyways, please let me know (via PM or here) whether any of you would like to go, and perhaps I'll see some of you while you're in town.

Oh! Wouldn't that be fun?!? Wish I was going...

Hi everyone! Enrique & I are preparing to depart this next Monday for the GJX show in Tucson, so we'll be there at booth 1221. Please drop by to say hello if you can...I'll be attending the AGA "Pearl Talk" so I might see some of you there as well. Will have the group of pearls that was part of the Pearl Exhibit at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, so if you want to compare the originals with the photos in Hubert Bari's book, you'll have your chance. I tried posting a photo of the pearls but somehow IE9 seems to be unable to do so...if you need a reminder of these, please visit my Blog.

Will definitively go and visit our friends at Pacific Pearls & Kojima, so I do Hope to see some of you up there then! :D

Do the concert dates coincide with the Conference? I thought it was at the beginning of Feb? Yes, Feb 2. The scheduled lectures look wonderful. One day, as Nerida said...

The gem shows cross over into the mineral shows. The AGTA ends and the following week is replaced by the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show. Of course, you can find lots of things for the first two weeks. :)

You may enjoy this

In this hands-on session, you’ll discover what makes the Golden South Sea pearl the “ultimate orient.” You are being offered a tactile experience as you witness first hand the range of colors while learning about quality indicators. This session will enlighten and inspire your future buying decisions. You’ll also receive suggestions about display and presentation of the Golden South Sea pearl in your retail environment. Take advantage of this unique learning opportunity separate from pressure to buy and bolster your knowledge and appreciation for Golden South Sea pearls.

Hello again -

When I mentioned the concert, I was thinking of the two-week period during which Tucson goes gem show crazy (through 2/13), rather than just the AGA conference. The symphony does have concerts the weekend after the conference (2/6 & 2/6), but those are a little NE of town, rather than downtown. If you have a car and are interested, we're doing a Schumann program (including the piano concerto).

I'm hoping I can tag along with a friend to the GJX show and meet some of you!
