Hi, I need advice, I am currently obsessing over pearls in general especially the black varieties. I recently bought a very sweet baby Tahitian gold art nouvou style pendant and also snapped up a pair of Cook Islan Black pearl studs orginally from Bergman and sons, so my budget is fairly exhausted and off course I just saw these, the strand of Fiji black pearls, 11-13mm low quality baroque 43cm with silver T bar clasp, priced about $300usd in my local currency, is it a not to be missed deal or should I keep saving for better quality, note I live in NZ so visiting Fiji in the next 3-5 years is highly probable and next year I am going to Rarotonga so I could wait and buy locally. Here are is a picture I screen shot, I need opinions

It's easy to obsess over black pearls. They're might favorite for the color range.

The image you attached aren't Fiji pearls, though. They're dyed Chinese freshwater. I'd pass on that strand.
Wow that was quick - she is quite reputable but maybe she was mislead. Thanks I’ll pass I already have some very nice dyed freshwater.

Here is another picture I thought they looked quite good for low grade - your sure they are freshwater?

Sound like you all might have saved me from a bit of a mistake - thanks so much, will just have to save up for a trip to Fiji - and for a nice genuine set in Rarotonga next year

Superhero of pearls ... I guess I've got the Halloween costume sorted out :ROFLMAO:

And yes, as BWeaves and Pearl Dreams pointed out, 100% certain. They are dyed Chinese freshwater pearls.
Thank you, I certainly won’t be buying then, I already have a nice set of Chinese dyed freshwater pearls - that were advertised as such and I paid $10s of dollars for - not hundreds. I’ll same my money for Rarotonga next year

JShepherd: I picture a big pearl-y helmet, pearl-encrusted boots and perhaps a mollusk emblazoned on your shirt.
I was thinking something more like Poseidon, with a trident.
If Jeremy's going more Superman, there should be a "P" on his chest, like the Pearl Paradise little tag charm.

I agree 100%

Update - I didn’t buy the pearls, but I did find what I am fairly sure is a real Fiji pearl - we being sold for very little as it had a broken ring in a J Hunter leather bracelet so I removed the pearl completely and threaded in a fine gold chain. It’s beautiful, looks grey sometimes green and even sort of gold in some lights. Now I get the beauty that is Fiji pearls!

Note these are pretty bad photos - do not capture the beauty very well at all
