heat and pearls

I agree with GemGeek - that is a truly elegant piece.. nice work, purlgurl!!

That is a very cute piece. Thanks for sharing. And congrats on a fine job.

I'm having fun, can you tell??? It's so nice of all of you to say you like it. Thanks!

Nah.... well, a bench jeweller with "L" plates...Can I be a lowly beader and designer for bench jewellers?

Well, you definitely design beautifully! Is there a bench jeweler turning the fabricated pieces out for you, or are you fabricating them yourself, as well as designing? ;)

Beautiful design Purlgurl. Congratulation!
Are you working with gold too?

Thank you all so much! I am brave enough to turn the torch on if its only silver & FW. Gold & diamonds & SS or anything more exotic, I am happy to design, but hand over the tricky parts to the experts. I use a variety of specialists, depending on the materials & techniques needed. I can carve a nicely fluid wax for casting, once again, it's not expensive until you are ready to use the precious metals.

OK Blaire, todays offering: a collaboration between Bernadette & my inner "lowly beader".
My MIL's sister has a signifigant birthday this weekend, and she wanted to wear her pearls, but they were broken. Bernadette to the rescue! She flew in with her cape fluttering, and waved her hands and Voila!
Meanwhile, back at the bench, I just happen to have found a matching pair, same size, same colour.
Dear Aunt has had her ears pierced for a life time, and complained that its no longer a hole, but a line, which she wished earrings could disguise.
I was very brave, and melted 2 blobs of gold, rolled them flat, and soldered (YAY, without melting them!) posts on the lower part of the disks. I drilled little holes to wire the Iolite beads (she saw some earlier and liked the colour) with the pearls. So now, the little gold disks cover her 'lines'.
I will give them to her on Sunday.

Congratulations. You are skilled and fearless! She is going to love those earrings. I especially like that you soldered the post lower than center. That solves the problem for a lot of women- older or just wearers of heavy earrings, who have a "slot" instead of a hole. ;)

She loved them!
I gave them to her on Friday night, and she wore to her party, the necklace & earrings with a gorgeous deep purple top, which went with the iolite perfectly. The polished gold disks drew attention to her ears & she had lots of compliments.

Hi Purlgurl,

Great earrings! It is one of the hardest things to get right in jewellery.

Pardon me for asking, but are you sure that it's iolite? It looks like fluorite in the pics....?

Ok Ok, looking at the photos on my home monitor, I can see where the purply fluorite idea comes from. IRL, they are a lovely sheer navy blue. Bernadette, yes please! I do need a Nikon, but also, I could probably play around with the colours a bit more. I am about to get Photoshop, so we will see how that works.
