Keshi pearls damage? Help!

Hello everyone!

I'm a beginner pearl-owner, this is my first ever pearl jewellery. As I know this is a genuine keshi pearl necklace. Today I found some concerning spots (marked on the photos), although I really try to protect them. Are they damaged? What can I do to protect them? If once damaged how can I repair them?

Hi Zsofife!

You have a strand of baroque freshwater pearls there; they are first harvest pearls. (Keshi are second harvest pearls-- they form when a mussel is put back in the water after the first harvest pearls are removed.)

They do not appear to be knotted between the pearls. The rubbing of one pearl against another can lead to a bit of erosion near the drill holes. I suggest you consider restringing them with knots in between. Be aware though that that will make the necklace longer.
Edited to add: If you don't want it to be longer you could remove a few of the pearls you don't like as much.

How to string (or restring) your pearls on doubled Pattye's Serafil, Beaders Secret, and Power Pro​

This is not hard-- really! It is harder to describe it than to do it. Anyone can learn to string their own pearls!
If after reading through this, it sounds too daunting, I suggest making a mini-strand for practice first. Make one 12-15 pearls long just so you can practice how to knot the end 3 pearls on each side and attach the clasps; the middle pearls are easy to knot.

I see you also marked a few pearls with dull spots. Nothing can be done about those spots, and it wasn't anything you did.
