Multicoloured SS & Tahitian strand

Hi every one,

so far I have never encountered such a pearl, luckily, very interesting to hear about it though.

Well Sueki, beading and stringing goes much faster when hearing your husband cheering the English Team, I think.

Wow, the things I learn here. Re: shifting nukes. I've had that happen so many times and had no idea what was going on. I usually have to work late at night, and I just always thought I was losing coherence! So how does one fix a shifted nuke - other than shaking the pearl and hoping for realignment? Can you redrill it?

:)Well Yes, Inge, but unfortunately England were knocked out of this competition in the early stages, so he's under strict instructions to cheer for Sweden and Holland....:D

Sleight,
So I'm not alone then.
I don't know the answer regarding redrilling, but I usually manage to re-align the bead by prodding gently with the needle tip.
But it does take ages....and ages....

It's such a pain when the nuke moves. Sometimes it can be impossible to realign it. You can drill it again, but you still have the problem with it moving. You have to stick the needle in as soon as you create the new hole.
I work a lot more with rounds than baroques so I do not have to deal with it too often. But when I do, I feel like pulling my hair out.

Likewise, considering the 100s of thousands of posts, 10s of thousands of pages and thousands of threads here at Pearl-Guide this is a curiously late-arriving little tidbit for those of us without practical experience.

Sueki,

The Swedisch People thank you husband for the moral support! Hope it helps.

I must Ditto Steve's remarks about shifting nukes! News to me! I will be extra careful when stringing up any baroques-----------

Pattye
so many pearls, so little time

Another question for the experts about shifting nukes: is a pearl with a shifted nuke weakened at all? Seems like maybe the nacre could be susceptible to cracking or something...

Thanks, Sleight! That was my final thought before falling asleep last night. Nacre abrasion from the outside wear and tear and inside bead knocking around sounds like big trouble. Every bead I have seen and some pearls I've seen have as much as 1/4 of the bead showing, the nacre is set fast to the bead. Now I find out that isn't always the case. What causes the nacre not to adhere? That same organic goo?

Dear Nerida:
I logged in a took another peek at your pearls today. They are so awesome!
Good for your grandmother. Mine lived to be 96 and she was the best ever. She passed away when I was 18 and I miss her still.
She was the center and pillar of our entire family. Every birthday and holiday we all gathered in her house. About 50 plus people in two small rooms plus a large porch style dining room add on. She would cook and everybody had a great time. She loved telling stories to us kids. I wish I could remember if she had any pearls. She was the daughter of a cattleman in Houston, Texas, and he had oil and everything that that implied. But she fell in love with and married a farmer. She was fairly poor the last years of her life but she had a big heart and her home was always open.
Hugs,
barbie
Do you remember if your grandmother had pearls?
