A Year of Pearls in the Life of a Pre-K Teacher:

Day 43:

365 day mission-- I don't think so, BlackPearlDudDC. A school year is generally 180-184 days, depending on the city. Still, that is an impressive shuffling and reshuffling of a collection!

Is this a 365 day mission…I can't even imagine that much wearable pearl jewelry in a single collection. These pics are amazing, I bet all the little kids are very "grabby"…I know I was when my Gram wore ropes of pearls, I liked the "Clacking" sound she said.

The school year is approximately 180 days. But I started a week into the school year (I'd been hired at another school over the summer, but their enrollment was so low there wasn't a classroom available for me -- I was asked to teach at my current school after the school year began). So I'll teach around 170 days this academic year.

Yesterday, one of the teachers asked if my necklace was pearls -- as if she'd JUST noticed that I might have an interest in pearls.

Blind!!! These people are blind! I wonder if, in another setting, they would be all over the pearls...?

I think most people have no idea that what I am wearing is pearls -- every single day. I think they think they're "beads" or ceramic or metal or something. Souffles and fireballs and baroques aren't recognized as pearls to the uniformed. And when I wear round white pearls, they probably think they are plastic. And I have to acknowledge that what I am wearing is not typical and part of the fun of my collection. It pleases me and almost no one else.

GemGeek is so right; it pleases us greatly when you wear pearls, BAS :) No one here ever recognizes any of my "other than small white round" pearls as pearls ... except for the few relatives and friends I've educated ... at least the ones who don't run the other way at the mention of my pearls LOL. The blue akoyas, souffl?s, Sea Of Cortez and even colorful Tahitians are just simply not seen in stores here, even higher end stores. But as BAS says, it pleases me to enjoy everyone's lovely pearls ...

I am speechless.

Love the Akoya and souffl? tin cup, by the way!

It is pretty amazing that they don't recognize your jewelry as pearls, BAS. Maybe it's just that most people don't own pearls and can't imagine anyone owning more than one piece?

Yes, I'm sure that's partly it. If they know pearls, they may have one strand somewhere at home.

That tin cup is one of our sister pieces, BAS, and a favorite of mine!

And I agree the average person may not even own pearls and if they do, it's the traditional small round white ones. They can't fathom the clay/metal/plastic beads we all wear :p

Ooh the multicolor keshi! Love that strand. They had several of them available during the PP Black Friday sale a couple of years back, and one person after another bought one, myself included:)

So pretty on you, BAS! And the earrings are delightful, like little clusters of grapes.

OMG, grape cluster earrings. I love them.

I feel like you need little carved emerald leaves on top of them. Not that they're not already perfect.

DAY 45:

Funny -- today's earrings are kind of like "carved emerald leaves". Peridot, pearl and gold earrings with Little H finestrino peridot lined pendant:

Stunning. Out of this world pairing (come to think of it, the shape and color reminds me of delicious pear, too!)

Good one, Pearl Sister! Thanks! Normally, I wouldn't pair such large earrings with a smaller pendant -- but I think it worked in this particular combination.
