New Freshwaters

Wow that is so weird. The pearls are so beautiful though. Very interesting.

If you are referring to the "very putrid liquid", it's not weird at all. Those of us who drill pearls know that it is quite common, be they South Sea keshi and baroque or freshwater fireballs, etc. A few years ago, I read an article by a well known pearl dealer, he said that when he drilled his beautiful South Sea baroques, he kept a bottle of Chanel#5 near by.

I was talking about the muck part actually. But I'm sure the liquid part is very smelly and would probably drive me nuts. I've read about it on this forum before.

Thanks! You outed me! Personally, I like calling them muck pearls, but that would make them hard to sell, so I'm going with Jack's name. ;)

Actually I kind of like "muck pearls"....if it means more are available for me. Congrats on the article Blaire!

I just don't get where souffle comes from, they are not light, frothy and made from eggs...

Well, if you could see the strands in white and multi-color, the name is more apt. They look like big bubbly baroques. Unfortunately, I did not take photos of the strands. I was much more interested in the colorful individual pearls and knew if I bought them I could take my time taking photos.

I am absolutely thrilled to get the article published. ;)

Congratulations on the article Blaire - one thing to have written it, another indeed to have it published.... well done!

Interestingly, didn't see any of these pearls at the HK show last week - did anyone else? I did fly in and fly out pretty quickly!

Thanks Nerida, and thanks for the comment on JCK!

I'd be interested to know if anyone comes across these pearls. ;)

Congrats on the great article Blaire. Now I can tell my grandkids that I know a celebrity author!
