Good day to all. I sold a lesser strand of pearls last weekend and decided that ..well..you know how it goes..there was now room for another..ha ha

I came upon this Vintage strand and earring set in the original case. First off..I am cautious about buying pearls that are not knotted in between, have learned from experience pearls are known to migrate from one case to another and lastly a silver clasp does not usually garner more than a swift glance.

That being said I did some research not having ever heard of "Fuji Pearl- Cultured Pearl- Ginza Tokyo". My research verified the clasp, the lack of knotting and the FP on the earrings..so I bought them. They are not the largest of pearls but they sure do have an amazing luster- they pick up colors and bounce them right back- a challenge to photograph.

Thinking they are Akoya- from one of the few references to this brand they were pre WW II contemporaries to Mikimoto- in fact the same source stated they were closed at the onset of the WW II. That said, I deffer to the expertise here on Pearl-Guide.

Any thoughts and knowledge you have, feel free to share as I hold members on the site in high regard. Hopefully my questions add to the sites knowledge base too.

Here are the images of the pearls- I do enjoy sharing my occasional find with everyone on Pearl-Guide.

Guy, a very lovely aquisition and imo, akoya pearls as you expected. Although the neckace doesn't look worn, the gimp at the clasp is very tarnished, and no doubt the silk thread has weakened, so restringing is important, especially as there are no knots except near the clasp.

Thank you- Pattye

Thank you Pattye. As ever you are knowledgeable and insightful. It had not occurred to me that the pearls and earrings look unworn, how could someone not wear pearls..ha ha..your on target as they look like they simply were tucked away.

Yes, they require new silk thread- meriting knots too. Appreciate your insights and suggestions. I might have put off the restringing had you not mentioned it. Not my idea of a good time chasing around a broken strand of pearls.

Sunny smiles, Guy

You might want to knot every third pearl toward the ends of the strand, simply because those pearls are small and knots may look a bit too much next to each one. Also keep in mind that knotting will lengthen the strand, so another reason to keep it to every 3rd in the back of the necklace. A lovely vintage piece.

Thank you JerseyPearl. Appreciate the excellent suggestion to limit the knots towards the ends of the stand. Yes I too feel they are a lovely vintage piece, a delightful and unexpected find.

Good catch! That is a perfect little akoya necklace and I agree - who wouldn't want to wear it?

Thank you GemGeek for your reply. Takes a good deal of hunting to find unusual vintage pearls in fine condition and be cost effective too.. gosh only knows I have had my "what was I thinking" acquisitions ha ha.

Still the rewards can be very satisfying when I see my successes. I like to share these small treasures with the members and non-members alike on Pearl-Guide. It's sharing the fun and encouraging others that there are really sweet pearls of quality out in the universe looking for a new home; most importantly to be worn and enjoyed.

Pearls can radiate a great cosmic vibe and add a unique energy to the day. Ah, guess I will always be a product of the late 60's & early 70's.. ha ha
