A new type of pearl!

It's related to the souffle and actually explains the original concept of the souffle pearl - something we all missed....

Hmmm...so maybe an air-filled balloon sort of nucleus? Or, how about a saline filled one?

Or, gel-filled?

A deformable filled balloon of sorts could lead to those interesting freeform shapes....

Yes Jeremy, we are waiting for the full story!!! I hope you will have some for all of us to purchase soon, they are just SO pretty!

And a baroque shell bead nucleus for the second operation?

Just need to know now?. :)

While the pearl itself is beautiful, the nucleus is actually nothing more special than a water absorbent gel-like substance (super water absorbent polymer). It was presented a year ago in BaselWorld 2012.

Anyway, it wasn't really a new thing, because this was actually started by the Japanese around 10 years ago by Imai Seikaku. The nucleus is light blue. When it absorbs the water, it expands. However, the shape cannot be controlled.

The whole ultimate objective for this creation is very simple - grow larger pearls.

Here's how it goes:
1. Implant the water absorbent.
2. Water absorbent absorbs the water, forcefully expanding the gonad.
3. After 7 - 9 months, if the shell is not dead, you get a shell with a bigger gonad.
4. Do a second grafting with actual freshwater nucleus.

While it will always be a baroque since the gonad is forcefully and randomly restructured according to the water-absorbing-nucleus, the pearl with the water-absorbing-nucleus will have a different weight proportion in comparison to the other regular pearls.

Jeremy -- I used to call you the King of Pearls. Now I will call you the King of Suspense (and Pearls).
