Aloha, I thought this might be fun (hopefully not already there somewhere). I was working madly on something yesterday and when I took a break I couldnʻt resist taking some pics of what it looked like. It is sometimes neat and tidy, but then inspiration hits (like a tornado). Anybody else? Where do you work on your "lowly" habit? ;)

Most of my beads and pearls are in clear stacking lidded boxes - some like shoeboxes, some large trays, and some with small compartments. I hate to tell you how many I have. I use gem jars to gather beads and findings for a project and I lay them out with pearl strands on a tea tray covered with a flocked foam pad. The covered gem jars help keep spillage to a minimum. Then I cover it all with a towel so the tabbies don't bite everything when I'm not around. No matter how organized I think I am, I always end up looking for glue or a certain tool that has gone astray. If you saw how much stuff I have crammed into the room, you would understand.

She who dies with the most pearls wins!!

Very funny! ;) I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a large inventory of raw materials lurking in the home. And if we're talking about our own pearl collections, I know I would lose to some fine competitors!

Can we see? My kitty likes to crawl under the work table and sleep on the black carrying case or if sheʻs really lucky, a black velvety display tray thatʻs been left out. She is white/cream (pearl color actually) with apricot overtones, and loves to find anything black to sleep on.

See kitties? You can see my fur children in the gallery on my profile page. Somewhere in the "Other Stuff" forum, there is an awesome thread about our animals. ;)

If you mean my zillion beads and pearls, they are in cabinets and stacked all over the place, along with folded clothes, magazines, my still unfinished taxes, etc, etc... I need a maid and an accountant! :D

It's too bad we can't just teleport to each other's houses and keep company while we create stuff. Unfortunately, I'm bogged down with school work and it's taking precedence over the making of jewelry. And I need the money that selling the jewelry would bring. It's sort of a "Catch-22"! ;)

I don't think my collection would rival yours (yet?), but I wonder if I'm the only forum member who is actively campaigning for one of their kids to leave home so's that I can use his room to spread out a bit more??

Better still, maybe both my sons could move out (quite likely, they're both ready) and I could have a storeroom and a workroom!

I hang my head in shame. I really hope your photo is it's tidy state. Mine is always messy, though I keep meaning to sort it all out... but I'd rather be USING it tham tidying it lol.
I dream of a comfortable upright chair with a small table adjacent to a tall cupboard with lots of shelves for threads and stacking containers, maybe a flip out desk and sturdy pegs inside the doors to hang unstrung hanks; that way I can see what I have, easy access and easy to tidy up (ie shut the doors). Great big windows for good light in addition to my lamp and AIR CONDITIONING for the build up and wet season when the heat and humidity here are horrid!
Where I work now is the coolest place in the house, it has air conditioning for when I need it. If we chopped down a big golden cane there would be more natural light, but no room for the rest.

Woo Hoo! That would be terrific, provided your sons don't go very far away. ;)

If it's a mess, Cathy, it's a decadent mess! What a way to go. ;)

No, Blaire, I don't think they will move too far. Comforts of home still way too appealing for them!

Wow! I am pretty small time, so my mess is big for the ratio of what I have, partly because Iʻm so isolated on this island, and canʻt get my hands on things that I want, and partly because I canʻt quit my day job. One of my daughterʻs is going to college next year, but with the cost of tuition, I canʻt buy what I want to fill the room. I was just looking at Terryʻs Designers Market idea for the people on this forum, but I canʻt imagine myself in the big time like that, even though thatʻs where Iʻd like to be. Sigh.

I keep circling through the posts, and we all seem to be on the same track right now. Itʻs 6:30 p.m. in Hawaii, and I am enjoying a short break of 2 weeks with no husband or small kid, and a big kid who is working a lot, while I am on summer break from my teaching job. I should be productive, but have been busy here, and trying to figure out how to really start things up. Posting the pictures helps me to figure out how to, well post pictures, but I need a website!!! Any suggestions on an easy way to start one?

I could send you MY son for a week!! lol

Waimeamomi: JUST CALL THE DUDE! I'm sure Terry would love to hear from you and see your designs!

Thanks for all the messy pics! I work at the kitchen table and nobody better move nuttin' when I ain't looking! When Wilma struck (my first hurricane) I got stuck at my brother's house for a week with nothing to do but bead, no electricity, no phones, no gas, but I had my tools, supplies and beads. I'm like Blaire, it's all in plastic handled boxes. I practically lived on the back patio in the sunlight putting together stuff and playing. It was great!

Hey Cathy - isn't your son the website guru? And young enough to be kind of compliant? Ummm, maybe he could do with a break in the city!!

Don't get me wrong, I adore my sons, but one of them is away for 5 weeks backpacking in China, so I'm just loving having his room to be messy/creative in, and not be in everyone's space! By nature, I'm a neat freak, so I'm forever packing stuff away out of sight and starting over again later on..
Knotty - the back patio sounds ideal - especially when it wasn't your house so you weren't thinking about all the gardening/housework etc you should be doing instead. I'm forever finding that sort of stuff calling me away from my work!

I am going to have to do three posts for my work space.

I just had to edit to add that the little basket on the top of the drawer thingy contained size 18 beads. That is about the tiniest they come in. The top wooden box and the bottom wooden box on the left side are full of beads and pearls. The bottom boxes are beads and findings- the top are 7 individually covered boxes aht conntain the gem storne and a few pearls. The big drawer thingy is full of pearls and the small drawer thingy also has big bead and some pearls in it.
