Over twenty-two years ago my husband bought me a pearl pendant in Kauai, Hawaii. I just ran across the receipt for it. Oh my gosh, did we overpay! We knew nothing about pearls back then (and only slightly more now). According to the receipt it is a 10mm pearl. Here is a picture of it. In case you don't have any American pennies running around they are about 2 cm in diameter. BTW I didn?t take this picture.

I never really cared for the pearl, but I love the bale. I decided to try and find a pearl that I liked as much as the bale. I bought this pearl in Papeete. It's about 13mm.

Best wishes,
Jean

That is really nice. The octopus is one of the best bails I have ever seen. By its very nature, it fits right into an art nouveau look.
Octopi, starfish, I can see an avenue of natural shapes opening up for bails Even a kitty clasping the pearl would be cute.

Very inspiring.

I love the new pearl- the larger size definitely suits the bale very well, and the color lends the whole piece a more nautical aire... The octopus is well-crafted as well- I have a 'monster' bracelet (carved with demonic totem faces on top of each other) that I picked up from Kabana's Sterling Collection while I was working for them in AK, and it is one of my favorite pieces, because it moves so far away from what we would normally view as 'pretty'.

Your pendant is very unique- and very cool! Great piece!

Thank you, all. Such nice people. :) The jeweler who moved the bale from one pearl to the other offered to make a new, larger octopus for the larger pearl. I was afraid that the larger size would require more detail to maintain its relatively accurate depiction of the octopus, so I opted not to enlarge it.
Best wishes,
Jean

Good opt! I like the balance it strikes :) The octopus is really intricate, great detail

Jean,

The proportion between bail and pearl look just fine! Beautiful pearl too! Very attractive, and I like the way the octopus folds around the pearl. That pendant will get you noticed, I'll bet-------

Hi Jean,

That is a lovely design. The pearl is so beautiful with striking color. I notice that most Hawaiian jewelry shops have some of the most unusual and beautiful designs. Of course, their price tags are way up there too.

I LOVE the octopus bail, and that's a gorgeous new pearl. Bet the octopus is happy with his new find...

Among the many beautiful items posted here, some just stop you in your tracks, including this one. Congratulations! Seems like destiny, such an elegant and unusual setting for such a perfect pearl, its maritime colors in absolute harmony.

Very nice. I do like the coloration of the original pearl even if it wasn't high grade, but the new pearl is definitely gorgeous!

I agree completely. A perfect match. The octopus and its uniqueness certainly makes up for whatever overage you may have paid for the old pearl.

True, true... I think the octopus is so much happier with his new jewel... absolutely perfect!

Hi Jean,

The octopus is so unique. I haven't seen any like it at all. Yours is the first. You won't be seeing anyone with the same pendant, that's for sure. Enjoy !!!

Gee, I never really thought of naming him. I'm certainly open for suggestions.:)

With a few tentacles clutching the new pearl in front, it looks as though he is guarding the pearl...

Isn't there some mythical names for guardian gods and godesses or spirits? I can't seem to to think of any right now, but something like that would definitely suit...

Or Nemo or Neptune...actual sea godnames are obvious choices.
