Sliced pearl designs?

Came across this interesting Wall Street Journal article (through Twitter) on the evolution of pearl jewelry designs over the years but it was the sliced pearl bracelet that caught my attention. I then googled the designer and found her website. Her designs are quite extraordinary, to say the least!

I agree, BAS. Pearly innards are not for me-reminds me of Body Worlds exhibits. But pearls in diamond encrusted cages? Yes!!

I have to agree, there's nothing sexy about the inside of a pearl. Put me in the "I don't get it" category??

i do believe i'd love to have a sliced pearl, or a few of different shapes, just to see what they're like inside, but i also have reservations about wearing any like that. i'd have to see them in person, i think.

Guess I'm with you, Juliebeth, I like funky pearls, but I'd have to see these sliced pearls in person to see if I'd want to wear or work with them in jewelry.

Hmmm - "sliced pearl" doesn't sound quite right, I admit the phrase is rather disturbing?.
But the designs are rather intriguing. See this bracelet for instance..
