Q about pearl necklace worn in North by Northwest

In the new movie "Julie and Julia" pearls are worn almost exclusively. I wonder however, if graduated pearls weren't more available during that time period? 1949 +

Hi MoC
The 50's were about the time equal size pearls became available, Before that it was graduated cultured pearls only and there was still a strong demand for them. Eva Marie had a cutting edge, top of the line, necklace, in that pic.

Hi Gail
I haven't been able to get the counter to work for years, though the url is still there and you can go to the page. I type in 7mm x16" and click, then it all disappears. The url and linked pages are apparently defunct.

lovely photo of eva marie saint! Those classy Hitchcock blondes, love them! Grace Kelly wore a lot of pearls too. And Doris Day, who used to dress almost exclusively in white in a lot of her movies. Hollywood Jewels is a great book, there are even photos of some of the greats from the silent era, wearing pearl lariet necklaces. Classy.
