Hong Kong anyone?

Beautiful photos. I love urban areas and definitely hope to travel through China and Japan in the future.

Your description of Shenzhen's size made me curious about the population density, since I hail from the land of big sprawly cities (by occidental standards, at least :)) Shenzhen has almost 3 times more people per square mile than Dallas or Houston.

Skyscrapercity.com has a few threads with interesting Shenzhen photography.

Peter good to meet you too. Shame we couldn't do the dinner thing. How about Tucson? There's been some stirrings on the board for a Tucson 2010 PG ruckus...
Look forward to it. I am sorry we couldn't do dinner Tucson sounds good to me!

Lauren, I think Shanghai has as many residents as the whole of Australia...

It's definitely close...
Shanghai Population (2008) - Municipality 18,884,600
but that's census data-- at any given time, millions must be there doing business.

Australia Population
- 2009 estimate 21,700,000
- 2006 census 19,855,288

(via Wikipedia)

Lauren, I think the 2009 Shanghai population is 22 million... grows faster there than here despite 30 years of one-child policy!
