Conch pearl

Hi all, I have just joined the group to ask if anyone is able to help me with identifying my stone. I always thought it was coral but someone recently said that they thought it was a conch pearl - I highly doubt it, but I'm interested because from what I have read they are incredibly rare. The ring is only set in 9ct gold and it appears that a chip to the top has been repaired at some point so it might not have been the original setting and the reason it's now set in this lower gold was due to the repair? Anyway, I have read through all the previous threads trying to learn more and the limited information available, so I would be grateful to hear what an expert thinks. I did read sometimes conch shell can have the flame pattern too but looking at the ring from the side it does not look like anything has been cut, it's more a flat oval shape and I think it's either Victorian or Edwardian.

thanks so much, I did think so! do you know roughly how much the value would be? the setting lets it down for me but I understand that the value is in the pearl and the original late Victorian early Edwardian setting

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the 9ct gold. Gold mined in Wales is generally 9ct. If your ring originally came from the UK, that's a possibility.

9ct gold is an alloy and I don't believe that it is mined at that purity. But, at the present price of gold, I wouldn't dismiss 9ct gold in any event.
