antique pearls?

The eBay ones look like shell pearls to me - just a bit too round and a bit too good a surface and a bit the wrong colour/look
A carat clasp and shell pearls would be about $99

Indeed. I've seen your incredibly lovely pearls. Your installatiion at JCK was out of this world! ;)

Wendy I agree - the latest link seems to show shell pearls..
Imperial Delta can we see some of your eye popping akoyas?

glad to read everyone;s comments! I been watching this seller, and she list tons of "antique"stuff are really weird.and she NEVER answer my questions.this pearl is a great example what she is doing there...
I love you guys, really wonderful here!

Oh man ... oh *man* ... look at this one:

(from the second seller -- ie. the seller found by MKa4972, not the original seller applecheek was referring to)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190340260113

Wowwww, (sarcasm on) purple-blue akoya!
Oh.
My.
God.

And even further, the feedback given for it was glowing. (Shakes head.)

And there are bidders, winners and glowing reviews. Imagine these “bite the dust” buyers showing off their SS or akoya to friends, families and others. How many of you would tell your friends and families they were scammed? I would.

Disgusting is what it is.

I think the pearl police has contacted the antique guy. I couldn't find any pearl necklaces today.

As for zwjhxy, he is one of the worst offenders I've seen, so far.

Look, he even has Lop Noors! They are so common nowadays!

No, unfortunately the antique guy is still selling the same strand of pearls that applecheek started this thread with.

Here is his current auction, still running with over a day to go:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-11mm-Na...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item48389acb74

Here are his older identical auctions, with the identical pictures (all "antique" of course):

http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-11mm-Na...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item35a524f486
and
http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-11mm-Na...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3efab01458

(I have to admit, I'm still stunned by the prices those two previous auctions sold at. His current auction is up to 36$, but who knows how high it might go. I just don't understand what the bidders are thinking ??)

editing to add:
In a way, the "antique" guy is sort of, kind of, lying "less" than the one with the "purple akoyas" and lop noors (lol at the lop noors). I realize that's a relative statement to make, and I find both sleazy, but what really stumps me is -- what are some of these bidders thinking?

For those that have a few minutes to report items to ebay:

On the right, below "Other Item Info" there is a link "Report Item"

Then drop down tabs, you can choose "listing policy violations, etc, and finally a choice that is "failure to accurately describe jewelry, precious metals and beads"

Then you have 100 characters to say FRAUD, I usually say many fraudulent listings--ebay do something!

Sometimes I also contact the seller and advise them they are being reported to ebay by the Pearl Police--:D It's doubtful I am scaring the person who needs to be banned, but for a few moments I feel like I did something-----

It could be a full time volunteer job if anyone wants it! ;)

the seller said it's 11mm natural white pearls

I think in general to use the word NATURAL is not right to use because NATURAL only means when no interaction of an human being was involved. Most pearls today are cultered like we all know. Let me know if you agree.

Hi Esther
You are right.

A fav ebay trick is to say "natural white" which means they are white pearls. If they were were natural pearls, there would be all kinds of off round shapes. No "natural" strand has all perfectly round pearls. Period. End of sentence.

Annnnd if you could find 11mm round 'naturals' they wouldn't cost $152.00. You might have to add a few zeros to that.
