Hello,

I have just read in the JNA (jewellery news asia) that there will be a new auction of Tahitian pearls. It seems that this auction is for the jewelers and small buyers.
I checked on their website (www.tahitipearlproducers.com) for any other information, but with no success. Does anybody heard about this event?

bye,
Marama

more info on this auction

more info on this auction

Hello everybody,

So Finally I've got more information concerning this new auction.

It is organized by one of the biggest pearl farmer of French Polynesia (some people said that they are the second biggest producers, but at least they are producing more than 1.5 million of pearls per year).
They are using the commercial name of Tahiti Pearl Producers (TPP).

This auction is supposed to aim small buyers (jewelers, retailers, small distributors, jewelry designers, ...).
From a friend who worked at the resource marine (or "service de la perliculture", the company who is controlling the quality of pearls), this auction will provide more than 200 000 pearls; they will make lots between 100 to 300 pearls. The quality is quite good (A, B and C... no D) and the size are quite interesting (mostly 9mm and 10 mm, and some 11mm and 12mm). I heard that they should have some 13mm and 14 mm.

In Tahiti, we know that this group (the TPP) is working very well and they are also very dynamic.

The auction will take place in Hong Kong, during the september show (from the 16th to the 19th) in the Central Plaza building.

best regards,
Marama

Do you happen to know if TPP has an office in Papette?

There was an auction like this in Suzhou a couple of years back. The lots were small and small buyers were invited. But the prices reflected that. I wonder if this will be a similar-type situation.

Hi Jeremy,
when you say the price reflected that I am assuming that you mean that prices were up up up.
Auctions are always interesting!

Hi - I have just registered to attend, as I will be in HK for the show... not sure if I will be bidding, but will certainly go along for the experience!

Franck Tehaamatai.

I thought the "Tahiti Pearl Producers" was an association of producers of which Tehaamatai was president. Is he related to the owner of Tahiti Pearl Market?

concerning TPP

concerning TPP

Hello

You are right.

The GIE Tahiti Pearl Producers was cancelled long time ago. It was an association of pearl farmers from the tuamotu and gambier islands.

Most of the members have joined the GIE Poe Rava Nui now, or the GIE Poe o Tahiti.

As "effisk" said, M Tehaamatai Franck was the president of this GIE TPP.

Now, M Tehaamatai Glenn, his son, is the new manager or director of the farms. He is the person in charge of this Pearl Auction.

regards,
Marama

Hi Marama
and thank you for your excellent posts and information on Tahiti pearls.

Effisk -I didn't get to the auction. There were plenty of other pearls to choose from... simply overwhelming, really. Maybe next time!

Did anyone go to the auction? any news?
Thats funny. Now that you mentioned it I don't know anyone who did. Or maybe nobody said. :p I never recieved my invite so I just forgot to follow up I guess. I'll check around tonight.
