Parents' Folly:

Marianne, it is a very special picture that I will cherish forever.

GemGeek -- I have had that jacket for a couple decades, I think. It may need replacing soon, but it's like a second skin.

Ooops ... I meant to say the 2 generations photo; just love it :)

Thank you for the rest of the story and the great photo of pearls then and now. Of course, feel free to add to the saga as things continue to develop....

I'm wondering if it is time for mom to have another strand of pearls?

Red -- she is super modest and humble, I don't know if she would wear them. Two strands would feel one too many to her (in this case, the apple fell quite far from the tree). But I think you are right. And given my father's taste, they'd have to be white and round. Maybe a strand of ivory white metallics. Though she was eyeing the ripples... But I think that would be too modern for my father to see her wearing...

Just a thought, but perhaps something along the lines of a strand of those multi-color Vietnamese akoyas for mom? Close to round, not too big, very "glowy" colors, yet subtle and elegantly different ?

Impossible given my father's taste in pearls. He is the one who would see them being worn, and she would only want to wear something that makes him happy. The formula to 60 very happy years of togetherness, which I would honor. No reason to shake the boat (with anything other than round white pearls).

Sweet continuation of your story BAS! Haha, too funny about your Dad's opinion that only your white round pearls are "real" and "pleasing". Hmmm...what does that say about me that your Handama rope and your triple strand are my favorites too? :p But I also think your other pearls are GORGEOUS too! Love your triple strand with your leather jacket ~ tres chic! And your mum looks fabulous in her pearls! How thoughtful of her to wear them out with you.

Oh I love this story! 60 years of marriage - something is definitely working! And that picture of you and her together - that image will last forever! Thank you for sharing.

BAS, I love the photo of you and your mom in your pearls. At least your father should approve of your new WSS strand: round, white and super lustrous!

Eeek I think they let the cat out of the bag about your wSS strand!!! So excited to see reveal photos! Congrats!!!

I started a thread on PriceScope named "My 2014 Ruckus Experience" with some pictures of the WSS strand. My father may find the pearls to be too large... I'm visiting him in a couple of weeks and I'll let everyone know!

LOL!!! I think he is going to love them!

My bet is that you are right, and that he is a round white akoya man to the end. However, you have successfully introduced him to white freshwater pearls, so I think that this is the next logical step. It will be interesting to see.

Love this 'New Posts' button on the New Look PG - how did I miss this hilarious thread first time round?
The three way conversation had me chuckling and I loved the special pearly neck shot of Mum and Daughter.
And yes, what does Dad think of the SS now?
