hi there,

I know this could be a silly question, but here goes..

I do we differenciate tahitian pearls vs fresh water bead nucleated pearls with similar color ranges? I know in recent times fresh water bead nucleated pearls
comes with similar colors to tahiti pearls. Is there special characteristics which we need to look for to separate the two?

thanks for your input

Cheers!

Freshwater and SS andTahitians exhibit different sorts of flaws - Freshwater bead nuked flaws are the same as other fw flaws in terms of rings, dings, and so on. Sea bead nuked are different - the dings tend to look more like the marks left on mud when a stone is dropped into it - sort of like a crater. Distinctive in any case.

They feel different to the touch too.FW somehow smoother.

But there are some incredibly alike wss and freshwaters, even unto the satiny lustre and I'm sure Tahitian-ish are around the corner too. Certainly I have seen some tissue nucleated fw which have an incredible proper peacock look (rather than just being multicoloured which is how peacock tends to be used as a descriptor for fw)

Thank you for a very good description, Wendy.

Not a silly question at all!
