I have seen many pearl bracelets around the world, but was wondering if pearl bangles are just India-specific?
In India, they usually come in pairs and are made using pearls with either yellow gold or silver or yellow gold-plated silver. Here're a couple of samples:

I guess they are not considered practical as they knock around a lot and jingle on the wrists, but they do look pretty.....in an Indian way, maybe:)

I really like those. I have not, however, really been exposed to that style. Are there reputable sellers for something like this that you have dealt with or do these bracelets get custom made?

I love that style of bracelet. Love the jingle, no clasp, pearl showcase. Not practical for work though or house cleaning :). Guess I could stop doing those things. Need earrings too.

Less housework, more pearls. I'm all for that! :D

Me too, Inge! The second pair of bracelets is exquisite - I would wear them any day! I haven't seen bracelets like this before, except in India, and even then, saw more of the first type than the second.

I wonder what such a bracelet would cost if one could get one, that is! Fine taste you have, Nerida!

How lovely! Especially the second pair...

Much as I know, you may find the odd pearl bangle among artsy-custom-artisan jewelry, but they are not common. I must have posted a couple from www.Guild.com a while back. There are more from the many jewelry artists posting there.

The most impressive I recall was an unhinged cuff with a weave of seed pearls, coral and gold beads covering the metal. It may have been from Mc Teigue & Mc Lelland, but wouldn't swear.

Had to bet the (Indian) originals, anyway!

Hi all! There are some pearl bangles here, quintessentially Indian in design and I think you can even order online:
http://www.indiangiftsportal.com/in...ry/bracelets-bangles/pearl-bangles-bracelets/
and another link where there are "pearl sets" on sale, meaning necklace, earrings and a pair of bangles
http://indiaplaza.com/jewelry/ls.aspx?c=5232

Just to clarify, I have personally never bought from these websites, nor am I endorsing their products. Just sharing some information that I found. :)

To answer teh original Question, I do believe these are India Spoecific as far as Design goes. India always has had a style all its own when It Comes to Jewllery.

They are really pretty, the Kind of thing to wear to a formal gathering such as a wedding or dance..

Yes, more than likely they are India specific. Most of what I've seen here in the USA is more of this style:
