I once gave a bag full of nuclei to a abalone farmer in Cayucas California. In exchange for a box full of abalone. I enjoyed my end of the deal. But I never heard about his results with the nuclei. I understand he planned to drill in to the shell and implant from the back.

It would be difficult to get Roger to Tucson but I will ask him. If you liked The Stewart Island link try this one it goes back to when we first agreed to represent Eyris in the US.
You will see that these images are very similar to the original ones in this thread. New Zealand is a place of breath taking landscapes one will never forget and Roger’s Farm on the Banks Peninsula is incredible.

I loved the Imperial-Deltah booth at Tucson! It would be terrific for Roger to go to Tucson. There's a whole different market there. Designers need to learn about Eyris Blue Pearls!

What would sell Roger on coming here? Let's see........

The Tucson Gem show is the largest in the USA-maybe in the world, plus Tucson is a much prettier city than Las Vegas. Tucson also has gambling in the Yaqui and Tohono casinos.........and Mexico is about 60 miles south...Tucson has a huge Mexican influence in the architecture and the food and in other areas.

Do you really think we'll 'never' see a whole cultured pearl from a Paua shell (or any other species of abalone)?

The Fall 1998 issue of Gems and Gemology published the article "Cultured abalone blister pearls from New Zealand". They feature mabe from a company called Empress Abalone Ltd and they also show a photo with the first attempts at culturing 'whole free-formed bead-nucleated abalone pearls'. These pearls aren't pretty but they are (or were) onto something.

I so wanted to go on this tour, maybe next time, I was (still am) really interested on the production of cultured pearls in abalone.

Yes Hector, they are working on whole pearls from abalone, although, how you can nucleate a hemophiliac, is the deep dark secret that has me scratching my head. I hope to see some output one of these days!

I have to say that the ring is one of my two favorites. The other is the lavender kasumi pearl ring from Kojima. I beat this pearl into everything and it only has tiny little scratches you would need a loupe to see!

LOL, thanks. I spent a heck of a lot of money on that trip, so the more people that get to share in it, the happier I am! In a rare feat, I actually saved the money in advance to pay for the abalone jewelry. I still haven't found the ring. <sigh>
