The Perfect Pearl

Not sure if this should go here but I recently watched a documentary called The Perfect Pearl.

It aired on PBS in the US on March the 27th and while the information maybe out of date today, it was remarkably accurate for it's time (1998).

Visit the documentary's Nova Online website here or it's available for purchase from the WGBH Online store here.

Some of you may especially appreciate the scenes where some lucky individuals get to handle large south seas pearls as if they were marbles or perhaps gains of salt. An experience that is quite fun :D .

Hi Ragnorak,

Yes, I was able to see that documentary also. It was most interesting.
And I am totally jealous if you get to "play" in South Sea pearls!!! That would be a heady experience for me!!!

Hi Pattye,

I don't get to play with large south seas pearls straight out of the oyster any more but I used to and it's quite surprising how much weight the large ones seem to have in your hand.

But like anything it's surprising how used to doing it you get.
