Hong Kong -sept

I am going and Katbran is going, heard Jeremy and Hisano are not, Wendy

So far mostly specimen pearls for designer makers..the sort of ultra mirror metallics or in shapes or colours you can only get by actually being there and wading through many thousands of still v good pearls but not the super super specials
Plus many top qual simple potato and rosebud strands and the really tiny single pearls and half pearls for repairing old jewellery.
Would love to meet up with you Cees

After years reading posts on PG forum, this is my first reply, and my first visit to Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, yes i'm very happy to going too, thank you all members of Pearl Guide Forum, for your generous and skilled informations, they permit me to learn so much about pearls, and wanting to go to the heaven of pearls addicst, HG fair!

euh, please,i'm confused , but: how to send a PM ?
it would be great to see some of the PG members here in Hong Kong,
i'm coming in Hong Kong on 09/08 until 09/16, as i saw on your posts it was better to take a look at wholesaler offices, before the show 's oppening

alleluia, i discover finally how to post a PM to Wendy, very excited to see in person member(s) of Pearl Guide Forum in Hong Kong !

I am not sure if wholesalers like it that you pay them a visit so close before the opening of the Fair, while they are so busy preparing for the event, my wholesaler stops visits one week before the Fair

Katbran: Tell me! There are always pearls sitting there chirruping 'buy me! I'm pretty)

Pearlsaddiction. Unless you have made arrangements beforehand, Cees is right. You should not just arrive at wholesalers without appointments before the fair. For your first visit there will be plenty of pearls to select. Most dealings are either by bank transfer later or by cash at the time, by the way. (and wholesale offices are for trade. Are you trade. as you haven't said)

Yes, Pearlescence, i've just have official papers for my new trade, before pre registration for HK Show,
i was thinking about my trade since some years (notebooks full of pearls jewelry designs, learning threading pearls, thank you Henrietta' book, PG members and you tube), and seriously since last year, GIA Pearls graduated (internet from September to December 2015, computer in front of me and english dictionary on my left ! , and lab class in London on March 2016, very proud with my GIA Alumni Association Members card !!)
for the whosaler offices, good advices, i'm trying to contact some of them for an appointement before the show, if it is not possible, tourism is a good alternative, too ! After all i hope for more shows in the future !

PEARLSADDICTION- Welcome and hope to see you in Hong Kong :) You will find all the pearls you will ever need at the show but be sure to make a list of what you want or you'll end up like me....money spent on the first day lol And there are so many things to see and do - you can take one of those hop on hop off buses and it will run you around to the Antiques area etc and the train to the "Peak" ( hopefully on a less cloudy day so you can actually see something) . Sadly the Hong Kong Museum of Art is undergoing major renovations and will be closed for another year or two. But...the Big Buddha .... Night Market... etc etc etc Depends on how much time you are going to spend in the area. You'll have a great time.

Yes, the Big Buddha is worth a visit. I wheezed my way to the top on my last trip. You can also get a visa and go across the border to China where the shopping is great. I'm seriously irked because I usually go to the visiting exhibition at the History Museum (Chinese imperial court dress was one, stunning) but this year's..Pompei closes the week before. !
Food is fabulous, you can eat very cheaply and get great local food or you can go to very expensive places. Hong Kong is generally very safe. Just don't make eye contact with the touts on the pavements who want to sell you fake Rolex

The wholesalers who are best to visit before the shows are most often the ones who come from outside Hong Kong. A lot of Japanese companies and South Sea producers have pre-show shows and auctions. They will show off their product to invited guests in small conference rooms and even in hotel rooms.

Freshwater dealers probably won't be too inviting because they spend weeks preparing for the show and the last few days leading up to it are the busiest for them.

Hisano and I are skipping this time too. It's going to be the first show we've missed in about five years. Brexit happened while the show was underway in June and so many vendors lost a lot of money as nearly everything is invoiced in dollars. I expect prices to be set in order to make up for those losses. If we go and pay those new prices next month, they will become the new baseline prices regardless of which direction the dollar moves going forward. It just makes sense for us to order what we need and not do the face-to-face this buying season.
