Golden South Sea Pearls at Pearl Paradise

I'd been thinking about starting to look for a pair of golden drops for a future gift, and when the PP event came along I figured it was time to see what they might have in stock. After lookng at photos of lots of choices, there was a pair that was a front-runner.

And then HK happened, so I asked if there were any new pairs that came back which might be of interest. Out of one lot came another pair- uh oh, choices!

I couldn't decide which pair I liked better from the photos, so I ordered both (with the intention of returning my second choice). They've just arrived, and I must say the decision is no easier in person!

The pair on the left is 10-11mm, 22k body and a golden overtone. The pair on the right is 11-12mm, also 22k, but the overtone seems to be golden with a touch of orange. The body color of right pair may be a tiny but darker.

Outdoors (the camera is adding some saturation here, they're not quite *that* golden)

Do you have your left and right swapped? The pair on the right looks bigger to me, especially in your second photo, than the pair on the left.

I like the pair on the right in both photos, which looks like the larger pair to me, for big classic drops. However, since I prefer less heavy earrings, for myself I would choose the smaller pair on the left.

Red - D'oh, yeah, I swapped left and right. I just edited the text to be correct now.

Chroman, both are beautiful ... I'm glad that decision isn't mine to make :) The luster on the slightly smaller pair on the left calls to me though.

Both wonderful pairs! No wrong decision to be had...but if it were me, I'd go for the larger of the drops all else equal. That said, I would also keep all 4 pearls and make a pendant and a spare with the second pair.

eta: I believe I can see blue sky and clouds in your first photo of the pearls. They look wonderful.

Thanks Red, Cathy, and JerseyPearl!

The smaller pair does have the edge lustre wise, but to me its hard to tell the difference from arms length viewing. At the moment, the larger pair is callng a little louder. I really like its shape of that pair over the smaller one, and I think I'm liking the color a little more (but both colors are pretty awesome!). That seems to be winning out over the lustre edge the smaller pair has.

But I still like gazing into both pairs, and taking them out for walks to see how the colors are acting in different light!

Indeed - thats the sky and clouds reflected in the first pair! Neither pair is a lustre slouch. I think that was taken on a fairly overcast (but still bright) morning. If the sun is out in full force, all you see is the sun:

smaller pair has slightly better luster

Chroman, both pairs are gorgeous, but I prefer the color and size of the larger pair. 11-12 mm is my sweet spot for pearl drops for earrings.

I can finally make an update about the 22kt vs 24 kt golden SS strands that I was considering. After much consideration I decided that the original 22kt strand looked better on me than this 24kt strand. I am sure that there are 24kt dark golden strands that would look amazing. But, I found that this particular strand had an extra dose of brown tint that was doing my complexion no favors. Perhaps if it had different or stronger overtones it would be a different story.

cmd2014, your analysis was pretty much spot on. I was so tempted to keep both, but honestly, the slightly brighter 22kt was the one that looked "wow" on me. The 24kt looked very nice, but not wow.

The 24kt is on top in this neck shot.

So, I am happy to report that I have been able to pass this 24kt strand on to KaySD and Purranha so that they can complete their projects. :)

I am really looking forward to seeing KaySD's projects completed and those amazing strands around her neck at last. And, Purranha, I'm sure, will come up with a beautiful piece of jewelry as well.

In that photo they seem very close in colour on my monitor. Lovely pearls...and how wonderful that more pearly projects will spring forth from these lovelies.

I find they are a hard pearl to wear for a lot of people...the overtones make such a difference. I can't wear the darker ones at all .... but I did find one last week....verry tempting... a nice oval , deep gold with both pink and green overtones...perfect surface.... I could almost ignore how the colour looks on me just to own it lol

From the pictures, I thought that it looked like the green overtone of the 22k ones gave a nice contrast to your skin tone (and pop), whereas the 24k ones seemed to have just a smidge of a reddish/bronze overtone to them that made them blend in with the pink in your skin tone a bit more. Yay! I can see you getting a lot of wear from them!

They are very similar on my iPad monitor as well, but I'm glad you chose a strand that looked best on you.

And a quick update from here; I ended up returning the smaller pair. It was beautiful, but the shape, size and color of the larger pair won me over after sitting with them both for a few days.

Now.. the adventure to find the right setting begins :)

My pearl strand was purchased September 1st but was held at PP for my 41st anniversary gift 12/7/15

I had purchased a pair of dark golden AAA pearls from Jeremy a few years ago but my golden strand did not match in shape or color. When Newberry told me about this sale I was all over it and hoped this was exactly what I was hoping for. I did take my old strand and convert it to a bracelet and it will be great with the new stand. AA+-AAA 9-11.6 drop shape 22K color.

Now for the thoughts on the strand.

I have been hearing about how much Newberry loved her strand and had to keep mine safely at PP as not to open them early. NO self control.

My husband was home when the package arrived Friday and we both gasped when I opened the box and saw just how spectacular these pearls were in person. My husband's first words were HOW MUCH DID I SPEND ON THAT STRAND? When I told him he couldn't believe I could buy them for that steal of a deal price. He held them in his and and said, those are Exceptional Quality Golden Pearls don't you think? (he sees me in pearls daily but this comment surprised me) He then turned around to do something else and I put the strand around his neck and latched it closed. He turned around surprised that he was wearing my strand and I asked him to step outside in to the subdued late afternoon light so I could look at them on a person. They just glowed on his skin. I was happy he was such a good sport and then after getting a good look took them, I took them off and put them around my neck. Chenai said they were drop shape but look visually round on the neck, I have to agree. The match to the earrings is perfect. This strand was just what I was hoping for.
