IS IT GENUINE TAHITIAN PEARL? ANY THOUGHTS/IDEAS pic included

I wondered if the HK and Illinois Pearl Societies are related. I think it is Eve delaFille or something close to that. Indeed, she does seem revered and she has been at it a long time.

Wendy, I haven't seen those big nuc'd freshies that you speak of but I believe you 100% when you say that they can easily be mistaken for SS's. I've had just that experience with fwp and some Tahitian keshis.
Caitlin, all the way home LOL. :D

I think the agreement was last time that they are not related. I too have had what I consider good bargains (two auctions) from the eBay version.

Just happen to have my book handy, her name is Eve Alfille. Although I've never purchased from Pearl Society, it is great to know there is another trustworthy ebay pearl seller. As with all other pearl purchases, it's up to each of us as a buyer to decide if an item is a bargain/good value.

As the owner of a very large SSP enhancer (see my album, the one that is hooked up to the akoyas) and a pair of white SSP's for earrings, I haven't set yet, I would say that I'm the not-so-profitable kind of eBay customer. I found PearlSociety's descriptions accurate, but I would not buy from them at Buy It Now price. At those prices I'd rather shop with a "real" retailer. But I'd happily partake in other auctions from them.

Well, this has been an interesting thread. Please do keep us posted as to what you decide to do about the pearl Wiwiwi . I'm not able to weigh into the discussion as that could be a shell pearl for all I know lol I have absolutely no expertise to bring to this discussion. I guess the only thing I would say is to check out the price and try to compare it to other pendants that you see on the sites that are reputable. There are quite a few Tahitian pearl sellers here, Josh is a Tahitian Pearl farmer and has an online boutique, there is a guy TahitianBiz who has lots of discounted pearls and some larger sizes and you might find a comparison there. The description of this pearl calls it Silver not white if I'm looking at the correct photo. You weren't expecting WHITE right?

The PS in HK is run by good old Roberto Lay. The PS in US is run by Eve (something). She's quite revered and was featured (well, her pearls were) in Renee Newman's book.

Good to know, very valuable info.
I have been watching and researching on this HK seller for ages before finally making a move. Glad, its not a bad choice for a first time of pearl buyer(me). Afterall, high ratings does not mean much until personally had good buy from them.

No, it s not all the way home...
It is all the way to the bank...
Make sure a few 'good buy' would not break the bank...:)

Congratulations to the OP on a nice pearl buy! ...
I'm glad to read that this seller is trustworthy-- I'll file that away in my brain for future reference! :)

Thx...i just can't resist....Glad it's a trustworthy seller

Fair points, katbran. this is where most of my spare time gone recently, searching and comparing...
You are right.. It's NOT white, it's gray tone with silver and slightly brown hints, which I love..
After all, choosing jewelleries is personal thing. Lots of times, people do take chances, go by heart, not by experts' eyes..

I have very strong personal likes and dislikes for everything, and rely heavily on my gut feel and instinct.

When I am in need of advice, I would ask for those who have better knowledge in the subject matter than myself, weigh up what they have advised, before making my own decisions.

Usually, I ask for advice to verify my gut feel and instinct being correct, and I am glad to say they are correct most of the time.

I would not be so bold to ask for advice and then challenge those who have kindly offered their advice freely because they do not agree with me.

DK :)

Well said!

Got it. The gray colour with silver, brown overtone and luster is more beautiful in person. Tried several phones but couldn't do it justice. A local pearl/jeweller confirmed it is definitely Tahitian. LOVE IT.

Are we still talking about the pearl that LOOKS like a freshwater? If you can't tell a margaritifera or a maxima from a freshwater, or people are split on what it is- why invest in it? I would call it one poor Tahitian, if that is what is is. I hope you are talking about a different pearl than the one we saw.

Ha, you now make me laugh, which is good. You just can not accept other experts' different oppions. You think you can control other peoples mind, just by your abrupt comments? Get over with it.
Save your further comments as I would not set foot in these forums ever again.
