I'm sorry for all my questions, but I need your expertise no this. Last night i came across this necklace and earrings on a secondhand website. The set is advertised as 40 years old mikomotos. 585 White gold in earrings and clasp. I don't know how big the pearls are or how long the strand of pearls is. The seller wants$2300 for it.

I have very little experience with pearls, and I want to know if you believe its a fair and reasonable price. If not, how much money is it worth spending no it? Of what you can see from the photos, what do you think about the quality of the the pearls? You need way more information. You need a clearer view of the back of the clasp. You need to know the mm size of the pearls and the length of the necklace. The box is Mikimoto, but I've never seen that clasp before on a Mikimoto strand. And the earrings look like silver, not white gold.

But what do you think of the pearls? I know Difficut tell form a photo, but do they look "OK"?

The luster in those photos doesn't seem very high in my opinion, and in the second photo of the pearls in the box you can see some pearls are more lustrous than others. Overtones are also minimal.

You asked if they look "OK". I guess they do look "OK" but for me the pearls lack the "wow" factor.

I've also never seen a Mikimoto clasp like that.

Thanks for your answer Pearl Dreams I'm reading and learning and nagging.. I got nowhere else to ask so I'm so happy I found this amazlng website!

Clasps backside looks like this. Difficut to see the stamp, but doesn't look like the mikomoto stamps I've seen after lurking around here for quite a while. seller says it is a M but it might be an early stamp cause she says the neclace is around 70 years old. Any thouhts about that? Looking at the photos i think the neclace look a bit transparent. Is it because of the light in the room or does it indicate thin narce? And the stamp, you know about it and did Mikomoto use å stamp like that back in those days? and last: If i way to buy , how much is reasonable to pay for it?

That's not the Mikimoto mark on the back of the clasp. The Mikimoto hallmark is a shell with a M inside it.

If it were me, instead of spending $2300 on a 70 year old strand of so-so pearls that may or may not be Mikimotos, I’d go spend that same amount on a new hanadama strand that had incredible luster.

I totally agree with you! I'm not going to buy it for that price and not without seeing it. I ask all my questlons is because I need to learn so I know what I'm seeng, and I'm curious too.

Those are not Mikimoto pearls in my opinion. The clasp does not have the Mikimoto hallmark and it is not a any known Mikimoto style clasp. The pearls do not look completely smooth or round. They are not well matched, either. The pearls do not look like Mikimoto quality.

Save your money and buy a Hanadama strand that knocks your socks off.
