Two pieces from Barbara Anton (1926-2007). The Pennsylvania-born artist was not only a writer, an actress, an engineer and a painter, but also a gifted jewellery designer with great passion and taste for pearls. She received more than 20 international awards in jewelry design. Such awards included highest honors from the Cultured Pearl Associations of America and Japan.
Isn't today March 8th, 2018 - International Women's Day - the perfect day to celebrate women jewellery designers!
BTW, I would highly recommand the new and sumptuous book by Juliet Weir-de la Rochefoucauld "Women Jewellery Designers" (read article here) that celebrates the enduring work of 50 women jewelers and jewelry designers from around the globe, throughout the twentieth century to the present day - Barbara Anton among them. A must-read. As we say in french: vive les femmes!
