Verifying/certifying the origin of Mikimoto pearls

Hello all!

I would appreciate some advice/help: many years ago my parents gave me a string of Mikimoto pearls as my graduation present. I have since lost the original box and receipt, but now would like to insure them. How can I obtain some kind of verification/certification of their origin (going back to the seller is not an option, as he's on the other side of the globe).

Thank you.

What is the clasp like? It can be difficult unless you have a Mikimoto clasp or an old certificate/appraisal. Mikimoto is a brand of Akoya pearl, not a specific type.
I suggest just getting the piece appraised if it is for insurance purposes. If you deal with one that has experience appraising older strands they may be able to tell you more. I would suggest NW Gem Labs in Boise Idaho. Sharon Wakefield should be able to help you.

Thanks for replying Mr. Shepherd,

You wouldn't happen to know someone in Quebec, Canada who does such appraisals, would you?

Thank you.
