Show Us Your Pearls In Action!!!

STUDS! Meryl Streep is the reason I got my ears pierced. I saw a photo of her in The Deer Hunter, wearing 7 mm akoya studs, and I thought, "I like that!" I bought inexpensive 7 mm pearl studs, which I wore for years. The pearl nacre was very thin. It was before I understood pearl culturing and pearl quality. I've since sold them, and bought 9 mm Hanadama studs from PP, which are so much more lustrous. I did not match my Hanadama earrings to my Hanadama necklace. My earrings are 9mm and pinked. My necklace is 8 mm and natural white. I like the size difference, and the pinked earrings looked better on my earlobes. Nobody can tell they don't match when I wear them.

I think I wear my Tahitian studs more than the akoya studs, because they feel more casual. The 10 mm peacock studs in the front are from Sarah at Ocean's Cove on Etsy. The rest of the studs are 9 - 9.5 mm. The pistachio studs are from Kojima. The 2 pairs of "black and white" studs are from Kamoka.

I'm having a hard time deciding which pair of studs is my favorite. But if I had to choose, it would be the black and white pair on the left. They seriously go with ALL my pearls. They look amazing with my white pearl necklaces. They look amazing with my Tahitian necklaces. I love mismatched earrings.

Visiting Dad today. Long mixed tin-cup from Kojima. White South Sea, freshwater pearls and small keshi. My Aunt Love's Blue Lagoon necklace with an enhancer that allows me to wear any pendant. The Queen freshwater pendant from Kojima. A pair of freshwater pearl drops from Kojima. I had these set so I can wear them as necklace pendants or on my own earrings.

I felt like putting this necklace on today. These are the 6.2-9.0 mm akoyas I found at a local consignment shop a few years back. The nacre is thick and the clasp is 14K with 3 little diamonds. The necklace is 18" long.

These were grubby and needed restringing, so they were bargain priced, and on sale to boot. :)

Oh, I couldn't resist. I wasn't going to buy anything during Hisano's last little h live event, but how could I resist the pendant that matched the earrings I bought before the live event? Souffle' pearls stuffed with blue topaz and tiny seed pearls. The blue topaz is much prettier and sparklier in person.

@Pearl Dreams what a great find! Unearthing hidden treasure is always so satisfying!

Please can I ask some basic pearl/nacre questions: when you posted this photo, does this section show how thick the nacre is? Also, it looks hollow at the core but I thought we should be able to see the bead?

Thank you!

I’ve been consolidating my pearl collection recently (by gifting pieces to my mum and MIL mostly), as I found that I was reaching for the same pieces over and over again.

So, please forgive me if my pearls are getting repetitive!

7mm drop natural white akoya peeking out under my turtleneck, from Flower Jem on Instagram. I can’t remember if I’ve posted a close up of the clasp, I really like how the length is adjustable as it allows for a lot of flexibility.

However, now that I think about it, it’ll probably rub the pearls at the back of the necklace. But I really don’t want to restring them as I value that they were personally strung by Mr Flower Jem himself!

Yes, that is how I understand it.

That's the nacre thickness. I think the darker portion is the bead nucleus.

I love the clasp! And the pearls glow. Love the blue knots, too.
