report of pearl in pacific oyster

Pearls from Pacific Oysters (Crassostrea gigas) are not nearly as rare as the article suggests.

The shuckers at Fanny Bay find one or two a week. 99% are highly calcareous.

Must be a slow news day when that makes the news paper. I think Dave finding a pearl under a minute is more impressive.

The last second of that video shows me losing it between the fingers. Luckily it didnt fall too deeply between the cracks and I picked it up. I've deep sixed other pearls before, but it never seemed like a loss. Most pearls in nature end up that way, anyhow.

Hi Pattye, freelances sometimes are paid by the column cm, yes. The freelance who sold this story to several papers over here will be a happy bunny who can eat for a few days..you get more for page leads and stuff like that.
In its favour, at least it is a nice cheerful story to make, rather than mayhem and war
