This is one of my Blister pearls in a Stick pin and I am hoping someone can advise me as to what kind of pearl it is. I do have an idea but I have no way to be sure. But it looks like it to me.

That being a Natural Blister Pearl - Pteria penguin . But I could be way out.

It also looks a little some of the paler abalone pearls.

I have added photos of mine and also one of the source I found -

http://www.naturalpearl.ch/22801.html - which is of a natural blister pearl Pteria penguin. Shape, colour, everything looks like this ..... but pearls can be tricksters sometimes especially for those that have a little knowledge :)

Please help to keep me energized while I upload photos and any knowledge or guesses I do have about this considerable collection of pearl stick pins.

Will be much appreciated.

Thanks GemGeek, that is what I thought but I suppose it could be pteria sterna, the thought that I could have a natural cortez never occurred to me.

Caitlin, I am not sure what you mean by
Looks like pteria sterna to me. What is the difference?
"

Can you enlighten me on the "what is the difference?" bit.

I do have another one that is very similar although not quite as pretty as far as I am concerned. As I have the photo ready might as well upload it.

What is the difference in the way pteria sterna looks compared to pteria penguin? Either way-it's special. the pteria penguin would be natural and perhaps, if it is sterna, it is cultured?

You guys are seeing pteria sternas everywhere! There just aren't that many around, although I would never say never. A rainbow pteria penguin pearl is a gorgeous thing. :)
