I love the idea of being to tell the undertone...But I am having a hard time imagining this situation "One of the best way to observe a pearl's overtones is to place them inside a small, white colored container with enough water in it to fully cover the pearls and use indirect natural light: you will thank me for this tip!)." Anyone have a photo or diagram?

Some time ago I took these two photos to compare what the gold colored FWP (that is the one in my avatar also) looked like compared to my GSS. One photo is dry, the other with the pearls submerged in water in a white dish. But it's interesting to look at the pearls to the right and left of the gold one, too. (Note: the FWP are reversed in the second photo; the peach one is to the right of the gold pearl etc.)
I especially like what the water shows of the bluish pearl (2 pearls away from the gold one.)

Does this help?

Great I get it now! I just have to get a white dish...my collection is either clear or colored. I might try clear over a paper towel.

You can also watch this short video I made several years ago (yes, in Standard Definition....not HD) that helps you understand the "Water Test".
