Bravo! educational at multiple levels and inspiring.

Really excellent presentation! Luster is so important when selecting pearls. The Pearls as One course really does a wonderful job of presenting the luster profiles for each type of pearl. If you haven't taken the course, you should! Thanks Jeremy and Jordan for your in depth explanations.

I was a Pearl restringer for retail jewelry stores for 25 years. Good cultured pearls are almost always knotted and fake pearls are not. I appreciate your video and I learned a lot from it.

Actually, all my fake pearls are knotted, including the high end ones I collect (Majorica.)
And many cultured Japanese strands aren't knotted other than the end few pearls.

Whether or not a pearl strand is knotted is not a reliable indicator of the pearls being real vs. fake.

I'm sorry, but my experience has been different. All my fake pearls were knotted, and many vintage cultured pearls and pearls from Japan were not knotted. You can't judge by the knots. But I am often swayed by the quality of the findings and clasps, but I've also seen sterling silver clasps on fake pearls, and CZ clasps on Hanadamas. Always examine the pearls themselves.

Laughing.... I have all sorts of variations for a variety or reasons..some historic reasons, some current reasons. The price of gold, the price of pearls, historic tariffs, current tariffs, jewelers skills, location of pearls and clasps. I understand why people look to hand knotted as higher end and gold clasps as higher end, but there are so many reasons that actually looking at the pearls is really the only way to tell. I was reminding my husband why Mikimoto used silver clasps early on. Japanese had incredible silversmiths who made brooches that imitated grasshoppers, including the jumping! That is some serious skill!! So when it came time to make clasps for valuable pearls, of course they would turn to silver. They did not view silver as lesser metal as much as "what we know very well." Looking at pearls is the way to tell. But sometimes people use google lens to tell real from faux..not helpful.
