I’ve always loved checking advertisement campaigns and I can’t help but think that Michelle Yeoh is such a perfect ambassador for Mikimoto’s recent campaign!

But also, the Chinese actor Song Weilong is really setting the trend in China, Korea and Japan for men being more bold in their chooses. The narrative was always pushing for black south sea pearls for men. He’s also an embassador for Mikimoto.

Paspaley is also really taking off in Asia at the moment, but people seem to love their more imperfect pearls. I certainly love their baroque pearls!

Tasaki somehow doesn’t seem to be able to match the appeal of Mikimoto in their common home country, even though they have a generally younger following.

Do any of you have any favourite campaigns you remember? Would love to see more!

(I'm getting a slight Frank-n-furter vibe that is drowned out by the tweed jacket.)
Ha! Good catch!

I always liked the Assael advertisements, but they weren't really campaigns.

The "campaign" that I remember was in 2023:
Ni Ni an acclaimed Chinese Actress/infuencer and pearl lover, celebrated the success of her latest movie with a stunning social media campaign of 30 selfies showing her love of Tahitian pearls.
This had an astonishing effect on the pearl market.

Over on YouTube, I found under World of Paspaley, Diver: A Collection for Men, introduced about a month ago.
"Inspired by our real pearling crews, past and present, Diver captures their strength, courage and the wild energy of the Kimberley coastline."
I think I could watch it on a loop (drool).

I really like paspaley, especially their invisible clasps on strands. I’d love to get a single baroque pendant from them someday, but sadly no flagship in London here. I feel with baroque pearls you really can’t buy online!

But I do have one criticism of these collections targeted for men in that they clearly try to sell less desirable shaped pearls at the same eye watering prices.

I have to admit, the design and concept of the diver pearl strand (6-12mm) is very cool and eye catching. I do love the whole idea. Just not for me at £15,779 🤭 When you could, for example, get the Delfini strand (11-14mm) between £5,500 - £8,000

The diamond shark is less expensive than a pearl.

Another vendor might call this a harvest strand. I would love a Paspaley harvest strand. But yes, eye watering prices.

Another of their videos I watched had a comment by a woman who works for Paspaley, and she said her dream would be a mismatched long necklace; paraphrasing, she said pearl of different shapes and sizes represent experiences in life, they won't match but they fit together. I like that.

I like that bollard pendant in the Diver collection. I have the pieces, I think I could make a copy (without spending $600 for a cord). Hmmmm....

Yeah, $600 for a cord is actually insane 🤣 There was actually a very beautiful Paspaley necklace that come up at auction in Philips but I couldn’t afford it at the time, but even though it went high, it was still a bargain and the pearls were very very beautiful.

Some of the prettiest brooches created by Mikimoto!

Wild and Wonderful, 2022

I’d pick the seal/sea lion in the black baroque, or perhaps the three diving penguins!

What about you?

These all appear to be labor intensive!
It's a tough choice -- the buffalo is unusual and creative, the parrot is colorful, and who doesn't like reindeer?
After careful consideration, I think I'd like the sea otter since I'm partial to sapphires. Do you need my address?

They are all gorgeous! I think my favorites are the seal/sea otter splashing in the waves, the panda's, because they look like they are having fun, and the koala because emeralds and pearls are stunning together.

Stunning craftmanship in each piece.
