I saw these SS pearls on Ross Simons. They are "18 inch necklace, near round, white and 12-14mm" for $2000.

The retail price of $6000 would be out of my range, But if this is a good deal then I would buy these. I admit, I like a great deal as much as pearls. I am 37 yrs old. So, nearing the age when the size is fine to wear. I like the white, and while not excited that these are egg shaped, they look like they only have slight blemishes which is great. But hard to tell.

Luster and blemishes are more of a concern to me than shape or size. First, are these a good deal as in this kind of deal don't happen often? a.k.a these really are $5000/$6000 pearls? What do you think of the luster and blemishes? It is hard for me to tell with SS, compared to Akoya.

Or should I just invest in 8mm akoya with high luster?

Thank you, advice is greatly appreciated. I have read through some post and will continue to read with the hope of someday being able to contribute to the community.

It's really difficult to tell with a stock photo and no grading. I went through some other pieces to compare the retail vs clearance to see what might be their commercial stock and did come across this one (use the zoom feature). The SS strand may be better, but these certainly don't appear to have passed through French Polynesia's export inspection.

Ross Simon is top retail prices. And you do not get the one in the photo- which is probably the best one of the lot. The sales price seems reasonable compared to the retail price, but I know you will get the leftovers - nice but not perfect may sum it up!

I like the one Jeremy posted- I have never seen one quite like it even though the quality is not up to the usual Tahitians par- they either did not come from Tahiti or they were smuggled out.

On the other hand, nice slightly baroque SSp are available at Pearl Paradise for under $1k
