Hi,
Looking for some opinions from people who know far more than me.
I waved my uv torch at my fly stick pin's eyeballs this morning and the pearls lit up red which was very surprising to me.
I consulted Google and now I'm a bit confused. Some articles say that red pearls are cortez pearls but when I googled cortez pearls the articles I found said that they are modern pearls.
They are unlikely to be modern. The fly motif, the cut of the rubies in the eyes and the fact that it's a stick pin make me think that it's probably Victorian.
I have no idea about its provenance - I got it from my Dad about 15 years ago. He was very keen on estate sales and antique auctions.
I am relatively confident that they are pearls - they feel as I would expect them to do on my teeth
They are small - I would estimate that they are 2mm and 5mm
What type of pearls might they be?
Unfortunately my phone refuses to focus on the pearls with a blue light on a white background
