Hi Snichole84,

They are cultured freshwater pearls from China, the kind that were very common in the 1980s/early 1990s. They are solid nacre.

The Chinese have made a lot of progress in their culturing techniques since then. Nowadays you can find nearly-round-to-round FWP without a nucleus and also round FWP with a bead nucleus.

The value of the pearls is rather low because they are very common, and there are much better pearls now being produced. I would say under $20 for the strand.

However there is no reason not to enjoy them. They can be knotted up and strung as a necklace or bracelet (see our tutorials on the Lowly Beaders Club) or can be included in a design including other beads. Being solid nacre they are durable and many of these baroque shaped pearls have good luster.

I agree. They are inexpensive Chinese freshwater pearls worth less than $20 for the whole strand. But they are 100% nacre. String them and enjoy them.
