this has gold wire wrap around it about 1 3/4 long less than 1/2 wide . It’s lighter in color than the photos show . Iridescent pearl pinks, blue green off white

My guess is freshwater, but someone with more experience might answer. (Based on the colors might be saltwater?). There is no bead nucleation.

The setting was made for the pearl, not wire wrapped as those prongs look soldered, so a jeweler or metalsmith custom made it. Wire wrapping is something a "home" jeweler can do.....soldering is more involved....Gold soldering more involved than silver.

Thanks so much for this post! Many, many years ago when my mother was a teenager..she was able to go out to Catalina Island in CA on a diving boat. The divers got abalone and she, not only got to eat it, she got to keep the shell & it was in our bathroom for years! Sadly it was given away without me getting a chance to keep it.... I loved, loved the colors!!!! I am going to look for these abalone pearls to have that rememberence!
