The sea pearls cultured in Sabah (South China Sea) water are not always round.

Like what Paul said, come to Sabah to witness everything Paul told you. I am in no way related to Paul but we live in the same country and in the same state. I know what he is talking about. While many of you condemn him, I am shaking my head here thinking you guys are missing it big time. But it's hard to put the blame on ignorance alone. I applaud what Paul was trying to do, to get Sabah Pearl the recognition it highly deserves because of its quality.

Just come to Sabah if you don't believe us. The people here will laugh at this thread if they ever got to read this.

When an apple is an apple, it will never be a grapefruit. Nice try though.

Plot twist! Tell us more, Cees - I'm glad this thread has been revived. I know more about the industry than I did back then, but still want to learn more.

MSC please Google Edward Kong Kuala Lumpur to get a better impression

All I know is that when I was in Kuala Lumpur Aquarium the souvenir shop there sells natural colors and dyed freshwater pearl jewelry. And they claim the pearls are cultured in Borneo. I have my doubts!

The dispute was with misrepresentation. It's too bad you can't see that terrible web site. :)

That was my reading of the thread as well GemGeek. I don't remember reading this one before but now that its been resurrected it seems as though he was selling Freshwater as SouthSea. We know that this is often a problem in KL ... I have friends who returned with 'South Sea ' necklaces that were just nice big Fireball pearls. It sounds to me like he bought pearls that were misrepresented and didn't want to believe he'd been scammed.

Thanks for the info Cees...you know everyone !!!

What really irks me about scammers like this, is the damage they do to the industry.

They are deliberately co-opting the hard work done by others and claiming it as their own. They don't enhance the South Sea pearl industry, they unfairly undermine it. They are trying to do them harm, by causing people to think ocean pearls are overpriced.

Edward Kong survived in Malaysia where even Japan could not. He put more than 15 years of great expense, objective science, technology and hard work into his successes. His hatcheries and algae labs are impressive. His product is mainly golden pearls and the quality is outstanding. You bring shame to the men and women of your country who work hard to deliver a quality product, by misrepresenting your dime store trinkets as somehow unique or rare.

Riding in on his very coat tails to destroy his reputation and marketplace is reprehensible.

Paul, I gave you the benefit of the doubt that you may have been fooled into selling something it's not, but after reading your responses and ridiculous claims, I'm convinced you are a deliberate scammer motivated solely by greed.

I really hope Mr. Kong sees this thread and takes appropriate action under the laws of your country.
There are hundreds of pearl shops in Malaysia, especially in state of Sabah selling Fresh Water Pearls from China since 1980s but misleading buyers saying those are pearls from Borneo or Sabah. This is just minor issue for me but unaware buyers will be very upset when they found out they being cheated.

Most of the South Sea Pearls produce at BoheyDulang Island, and Timbun Mata Island (both at East Coast of Sabah) are exported to Australia, Japan and Hong Kong.

There are no authority locally or internationally to regulate pearl seller to disclose the
1) origin country of production
2) whether the pearls been color modified by dyed or irradiated or coated
3) use rasin or lamination to cover flaws or dimples
4) chemically treated Freash Water Pearls can even fool the testing machine to get Sea pearl result.
these are more serious problems which will cause comsumers not to trust Pearl Industry in general.
