PP Monthly: Tahitian Earrings

Here are this month's special from Pearl Paradise. I am quite the novice so maybe that's why it's a bit difficult to see any peacock overtones but I think I captured a bit of it as it was reflecting off the white background.

The nice thing is that dark pearls match my skin tone quite well!

Very pretty, Jiazzi!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. The pearl studs were absolutely *FLAWLESS* - perfection in every sense of its pearliness. However, I ended up returning them because I was hoping for a really strong, intense and flamboyant peacock flair.

So sorry to hear that. I would have kept them. That was a bargain; and those dark Tahitians will go with almost anything. You can get another pair in peacock later.

I am also sorry to hear that jiazzi. I ended up purchasing a pair of these. I called to see if I would be able to bend the posts as per Bernadette's suggestion in another thread, but since they are on extra-strong posts to keep the larger pearls from sagging on the ear, Mia told me I could just ask for them to be put on French wires for an additional $12. I also requested pearls with a strong peacock overtone and was disappointed to get a very dark pair with no real visible peacock at all. I gave them a few days out of the box to "wake up" (I can think of no scientific basis for why it is so, but pearls really do seem to need a day or two from receipt to come into their own...) They never did develop much in the way of color, but the mirror on them is amazing - they will reflect whatever color I am wearing. In fact, I hung them in my bathroom next to the sink, and I spent about 5 minutes one night playing by taking brightly colored objects at hand (pink flower clips, blue handcream tube, yellow towel, etc) and moving them closer and farther from the pearls just to see the colors blossom on the surface of the pearls. It was mesmerizing. I was really torn about whether or not to get them - I really didn't have the money on hand to do it - but I missed out on the loot bracelets b/c I didn't have the money on hand and have been regretting it ever since. Also, I just can't bring myself to pay full price later for an item that had been a monthly special, so I figured it was "now or never" and I took the plunge. I am really glad I did get them however. The price was amazing and the pearls are just beautiful.

Hi Boo,
As a producer I just wanted to say how hard it is to produce those peacocks. I think it's great that PP offers a little leeway in the way of color choice but I think that if you wanted a true pair of peacock pearls, they would (or I hope they would anyway) go for much more than the $160 tag those pearls had on them. It seems like a heck of a deal to me anyway for true A grade (no flaws with great luster).

Hmmmmmm .... For some reason, I thought these were peacock earrings. I think my brain just filled in the peacock part when I was reading the description. Perhaps my subconscious is telling me that I REALLY want some peacock tahitian pearls.

I was originally going to purchase a matching pendant as well (when I thought they were peacock), but now I'm thinking maybe I'll just get the earrings. Does anyone think it would be odd if I wore them with my baroque strand that has a peacock overtone?

Hi, Josh. I requested the peacock because sometimes PearlParadise is able to satisfy my whims (and sometimes they are not) and while I have several greens and some multicolors, I don't actually have any peacock pearls. I just requested them to round out my collection a bit. Part of the reason I hemmed and hawed on this purchase was because the dark pearls don't do much for me - I like the bright colors. However, as I said, these pearls definitely grew on me and I am absolutely thrilled with them. Out of curiosity, are peacocks more rare then other strong colors (like my beloved blues)?

IMHO, blue is more rare than peacock. Jeanpn had PM'd me last year (after her trip to FP) and said she saw a lady wearing a pair of earrings that were very close to sky blue. They came from the pearl farm that she visited which had a pearl that color for sale.

I think I need to clarify a few things. I didn't purchase the tahitian studs operating on the assumption that peacock overtones are rare.

Initially, this monthly special was described as having peacock overtones which has been edited since, if I'm not mistaken.

I am in love with purple and green combos - thus becoming more and more enamored by peacock overtones. So when I received the UBER flawless monthly special, I thought I was getting Tahitian studs w/ peacock overtones... After days of looking them over, letting them "breathe" to come into their own, it became apparent that I wasn't looking at peacock overtones.

That's all there is to it really. It was just a matter of beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

When I placed my order for a pair of 8-9mm earrings back in Nov 08, I specified peacock overtone, and it was an option available at the time. I checked my 8-9mm earrings this morning and can see light peacock overtone on them.

I can't remember if the original monthly special page stated the earrings have peacock overtone, however, I did remember thinking the option to specified overtone was not available.

The option to specific overtone is still available, only if one is prepared to pay full price at 270 USD.

Regardless of the overtone, I agree with the others that the monthly special is excellent value for money!

DK :)

I forgot to add that, IMHO, overtone on a pair of 8-9mm earrings is not as important as a whole strand of pearls around the neck.

If the pearls are bigger, such as 13mm+, then yes.

DK :)
