Wearing my new Tahitian 10-12mm keshis - I like the size and especially how they’re relatively flat so sit closer to the ear, which makes them very comfortable.
I heard that keshis don’t need as much “looking after” - is this true please? I would love it if I could sweat and shower in these

Nacre is nacre, regardless of the pearl. If your water is chlorinated, I would not shower in them regularly.
Sweat can be rinsed off when you remove the earrings.
Luster can be damaged by exposure over time to lots of things.
• Chemicals: perfume, cosmetics (including sunscreen-- but wear it anyway, and wash it off later! Same for mosquito repellants), hair products, environmental pollutants etc.
• Mechanical forces: abrasion from rubbing against anything harder than nacre (so store pearls by themselves away from other jewelry)
• FWP are given a luster treatment to tighten the nacre. I'm not sure it is known whether the luster thus achieved reduces over time, and if so, how long that takes.

Pomelo, I love your choice of keshi studs! Not only do I love them, but I thank you for reminding me that I need to get out my own Tahitian keshi studs. Mine are around the same size in a silver blue. I wore them all the time and have long forgotten about them.
I don’t know who to credit with this but I’ve heard for pearl jewelry, “It’s the last thing on and the first thing off.“ Keshi will not be any more or less durable than any other type of pearl unfortunately. I don’t baby my pearls at all, but I don’t wear them to the gym or to shower or to sleep. Your pearl choices are fascinating me because they are not the typical “gateway” pearls that most people choose.
A mix of pearls- Akoya keshi necklace from Kojima with a SS pendant from PP. The long keshi necklace with vintage gold turtle clasp and the large Tahitian pendant are also from Kojima, and the baroque natural grey Akoya studs (9-9.5) are from Takahashi.

So if I’ve got it right: when chemical and mechanical forces can damage the nacre, it causes light to reflect and refract differently. Therefore, instead of seeing sharp lustre (which I guess is light reflection), light waves are scattered and therefore the pearl looks dull.
And so, does that mean pearls display less orient/ iridescence when they are damaged too (less refraction)?
Thanks @jeg , I can only say that I have been sneakily learning from pearl masters during my many years in lurkdom. PS - re: gateway pearls, do you mean round white pearls? I do have three pairs of white/pinked studs (and many many many faux pearls to try on for shape/size), but I bought them for research/luster comparison purposes rather than enjoyment. Once I have more “enjoyment” pieces that can act as calibration, they will probably go to my mum

RED: Your pieces are always stunning and unique. JEG: Everything gorgeous, as usual. The turtle clasp is adorable. Pomelo: I love the keshi studs. Flat to the ear, so you get a big pearl look with less weight. The nacre on keshi and baroques is much thicker than on round pearls, but I still take my pearls off to do anything "wet" such as walking and sweating, cooking (splashed vinegar or oil), pulling weeds (sweating), working out or swimming or showering (no no no no). I only wear my pearls while looking fabulous in air conditioning. And I can look fabulous in jeans and pearls, or PJs and pearls.
Pink today. All Kojima. Spring Petals pedant (large pink baroque freshwater pearl from China). 40" ombre' keshi necklace, freshwaters white to pink. Feather earrings with white topaz hooks. It's hard to photograph these feathers. They're pondslime color with lots of irridescence and purple flashes.
Years ago, I never would have put these 3 pieces together. PG members (especially JEG, BAS, and Baby Nurse) have really helped me learn to mix and match my pearls.

Thank you for the kind comments. Today I wanted to wear red, white, and blue in honor of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy and the beginning of the end of WWII.
The blue is my shirt, the red is the scarf and the white are my SS jewelry. I like smaller earrings, so I was delighted to be able to raid Hisano's stash of white South Sea keshi to find two lustrous drops large enough for earrings. The keshi are set in little h settings. These earrings were among the very few pieces of jewelry that i brought with me to Bali in 2017.
The pendant is a white South Sea pearl set by TLee. As far as I'm concerned the little h keshi SS drop earrings are perfection. Light, lustrous and beautiful.
The blue is my shirt, the red is the scarf and the white are my SS jewelry. In fact, the necklace originally had another creature on it and she graciously changed it out to the turtle for me. Thank you for the sweet compliment, BWeaves. I’m so glad you stepped out of your comfort zone to mix it up. I’m all for mixing!

Generalizing of course, but sometimes it takes a while to appreciate the irregularities and imperfect shapes. Getting out my Tahitian keshi studs reminded me how much I love wearing them. They are in a more accessible place now!

As usual, I'm drooling over everyone else's pearls.
The Swan from Pacific Pearls in a setting from a local jeweler. When I bought this unusual, leaf shaped, baroque pearl, I thought it was going to be white. I was so surprised when it arrived and was so colorful. The back side is also beautiful, and has a crease down the center, like a leaf. But after it was set, it reminding me of a sleeping swan. It's in a pressure setting, so I can remove it and set it differently if I grow tired of this setting in the future.
Mismatched blue grey earrings from Kojima. They have a coral branch vibe to them. My pants have an "under the sea" pattern on them, so they feel like they match my pants.

Pearl by the Bay really does offer an incredible experience with its Dungeness crab and stunning ambiance. Trying seafood for a day sounds like a fun adventure, and those oyster mushrooms are a clever alternative. Glad you liked the Ombres and Cortez keshi pieces!Ok, look...I mean...wow! Pearl by the Bay, Friends, Drinks and magnificent food...I mean, again: wow!
I'm actually considering going seafoodatarian just for one day. Never had real Dungeness crab and that platter does look amazing.
I'll at least try, or pop some oyster mushrooms to fool myself

Thank you Jeremy! They’re the second pair of keshis I've ever tried on so I was hesitant about keeping them at first, but they were so comfortable and perfectly imperfect that I decided they needed to stay on my ears haha

Out of interest, how do you find the wearability/goes-with-outfitsability of your golden Akoya vs pinked vs natural white? They glow beautifully.
I’ve been thinking about getting a smaller strand (either 6.5-7 or 7-7.5) and haven’t seen any golden Akoya strands in the flesh!
