Guess?

I am simply astounded by the endless possibilities of pearls.
Congratulations on the vision and the investment. WOW!!!

Wello, I didn't even have time to guess before you gave the answer, but I wouldn't have gotten it right anyway!!

Those are just amazing, love the size, the baroque-ness, and who wouldn't look fabulous in that color?????:D I can forgive them for being Akoya!

You must feel sorta like a proud Dad all over again, Jeremy!!!

Baroque Akoyas

Baroque Akoyas

Another fun strand. Any ideas? It is about 8-11mm... completely untreated, even a telltale bit of shell smell left...

Jeremy,

I was going to answer that these are Akoyas as I have a triple strand of baroque ones and they are very much like Yours, perhaps not such a nice luster but quite thick nacre!

How thick is the nacre on Your pearls?
What is a strand going to cost, once it is availaible to us?
Are You going to sell baroque Akoyas or just trying for round ones with a longer "growing" time?
How long where these in the shells before harvesting?
Treatment - just washing, no tumbling?

I am not certain yet whether we will be able to offer this line to the public. I have talked about it in depth with my partner in China (last night, as a matter of fact), and we are not certain that the volume would meet demand. We may do it on a small scale, however.

The shells had been in the water for just about a year and a half. The average time today is about 10 months for good nacre. It is a little discussed fact that because nacre deposition is quicker in China than Japan, nacre is typically thicker in China if the pearls are cultured for an adequate amount of time. In Japan the current average is .25mm of nacre, the equivalent deposition of 6 months in China.

The nacre on the pearls above varies widely. This is always the case with baroque. We did break a few pearls, however, and found nacre thickness in excess of 1mm all around, and some areas that went as high as 2mm. The depth of nacre is very evident in the visible (true) orient, which is so uncommon in akoya pearls today.

I should mention that not all harvested pearls were baroque by any means. But they were, in my opinion, the most beautiful.

The treatment consisted of only washing so far.

So a limited suppply...you should just make those strands available here. You know, for the loyal base who will truely adore them. Man, my greed today knows no bounds. My birthday is the 8th and my husband want to know what to get me. I have already ordered a stand from Pearl Outlets Mother's day sale, and waiting for notice of PP's offerings.

I think I have a problem....

Is there a P.A. anywhere? Soon I can hear myself standing up and saying "My name is Jennifer, and I am an pearl addict."

So what did The Pearl Outlet do for M-Day? We are really working at getting ours out today! It is going to be one crazy ship week next week for sure.

Regarding the baroques, we will just have to see how many strands can be made in a similar grade, as it will likely just be a few. It may become a line, it may just remain a novelty. But I really do feel that it is a step in the right direction for the Akoya industry.

Pearl outlet had various strands an earring on sale. It ranged from CFWP to Akoya to Tahitian. They had some lovely stuff at great prices. Since I have mentioned a few times that I wanted a rope, that is what I ordered. It was a 60-inch, 7-8mm, AA+, white, off-round rope. The price was a steal (not sure if I can post here?). Ideally I want to order a rope in Freshadamas, but this is like my practice strand. It will certainly experiment with a rope without a risk as far as cost. So if I really love it, an order will be coming your way soonish, probably with a request for invisible clasps added. I need to figure out where though. IS your sale info posting today? If not, I should wander off to bed. It is past 2am here, but luckily, it is Golden Week.

Golden Week in Japan is a week with several national holidays in it, so most people have (or take) the whole week off.

Sounds like quite a sale. You know Terry Shepherd is my brother, you would think I would know what they are up to. Have not had a chance to talk to him since returning from Asia, however.

We had all intentions of releasing our MD special today. But I found a lot of small issues with what was prepared when I returned yesterday. It appears as though we will not be able to get it out until tomorrow...

So off to bed I go...

And yes, I knew it was your brother's company. It was the main reason I felt so secure ordering from them. Plus,PO has a good reputation around here too. I was a bit surprised that you asked what he offered. I thought maybe there was a big Shepherd meeting to avoid offering the same goods. ;) The sale went on for a few days, and I had to restrain myself from ordering more. Look forward to seeing yours though. Will you be offering other items, or just the non-treated FWs? Since your brother offered so many things, I feel a bit spoiled.

What happens with the specials? Just wondering if I should stay up till 2 am tonight (9 am in LA) - it doesn't last very long, does it? I also wanted the custom-made clip-ons and screw-backs for the earrings, but Kirsten hasn't gotten back to me yet. Wasn't sure to order everything and put special instructions in the box, or just email my order. I'm afraid I'll miss out on the specials if I just email it.

Our's is going to be pretty limited in scope. Most of the time we use these periods to eliminate overages. This year we are doing something very different with this new line. It will probably not even go public, I mean beyond here and our own customer list.

Raisondetre,
Jump on our chat service and ask for me or just send me an email. I will make sure you see it at a reasonable hour;)

Can't wait! Another reason to stay up late on-line shopping. :D

Thanx for that Jeremy. If you send it out a couple hours before say 6-7am your time I'm sure I'll be able to get it in. I'll put in my order and have special instructions in the box for clip-ons. Kirsten just got back to me. I'm sure it'll be fantastic.

I certainly hope to hear from You when that happens, please remember us members of the forum especially!:)

Hi Jeremy,

How about developing a "PP-Private Client" list of us forum members hungry for these unique limited amazing offerings from you? Sounds like that is pretty much what you have going--just not certain you have an official title for it?? I,too, look forward to tonight's email!

That is a really interesting concept, Pattye. It is one, believe it or not, that we have recently discussed. It is a possibility.

The email will be going out in a few hours, hopefully no later than 11am. We have a few sections to tweak before it is ready.

Jeremy, I would hope that you would try to do so. I had a real "wow" reaction to this strand when you first posted it, but I have that reaction to lots of things on this site. However, here it is several days later, and I still am obsessing over it. In my eyes, it is just about perfect: color, size, shape and luster (I admit it, I am a magpie and completely swayed by the surface shine on a nice Akoya...). Even if the volume doesn't meet demand, there's not much wrong with having 100% demand, right? Selling to the folks here would be a nice way to do it, although a perverse part of me wants to have us all fly to LA to fight over them in person like wolves snapping over a piece of meat - we could film it for a reality TV show "Pearl Predators".:p :p :p

Okay, that might be abit much, but I just have a visual in my mind of the members here, hunched over their keyboards, waiting for the email to tell us the untreated baroques are available: "Why didn't I spring for the T1 line? Load, for the love of all that's beautiful, LOAD!!"

Honestly, Boo,

You are hysterical! LOL!! Just what I needed to go with my third cup of java this am!
