Exceptional Size 102 cts Pearl

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum and i present this exceptional size 102 ct pearl. Any comments , appretiations welcome. It has a a SSEF certification and its noted by them as "Rare" , any guess on prices ?

Yes...dimensions would help .. length and width please... what did the certification say? I'm assuming the 'rare' is due to it's size as the shape etc isn't.

Is it freshwater or akoya or south sea?

Is it bead nucleated?

Is it natural or cultured?

What is the size?

I'm just curious what makes it rare.

According to the report it is saltwater and natural.

A natural pearl of that size and beauty must indeed be rare.

Could a pearl of that size and natural color grow in any oyster other than Pinctada maxima? It would have to be a mighty big oyster.

One thing that would definitely detract from the value is that it has been worked. Was it originally attached to the shell?

Well it has been worked to finish the base and remove any unwanted "fragments" , and its a common practice , i mean if you assuming that its worked to increase the size or alter something , its impossible. .

We don't do evaluations here and usually direct people to do a search to get prices. That probably wouldn't work for your pearl but maybe someone might be able to direct you to a place get one done. Good luck.

Maybe you don't have a lot of experience with valuing natural pearls, but "worked" explicitly means that the pearl was interfered with to improve its appearance. This is mainly seen in pearls that were attached to the shell during growth or had a bad spot that had to be "fixed".

A whole natural pearl would be left in its native state, as any direct filing or obvious polishing would reduce its value. That is why it is remarked on in the gemological report. That said, it's still a great specimen and should be easily salable.

It would be a good idea to contact Bonham's auction house and inquire about putting it up for auction. You might realize more monetary return and have less headaches that way. There is a location on New Bond Street in Mayfair.
