P. sterna v Pipi

Andrea, I'm so happy for your new position! Great choice of earrings, too! Is the center stone opal? It certainly glows! Judy's work is amazing!
I'm hoping to get a good picture of my p.sterna keshi, just a few of them and the strands, but missed the morning light today. It surely is a mystery about the pearls. I'm also hoping to find a good example of small fw keshi to show. Not that it will prove anything, lol.

Thank you Pattye, Blaire, and Kat for the well wishes!

Yes, the center stone is opal and she uses such great quality stones so they really dazzle with color!

Pattye, photos of both keshi types would be really helpful, I think!

I haven't heard back from Barney's yet, but that's no surprise. I wonder if they'll take it seriously at all. Here's a thought, they may not carry the necklace at every store. When I visited the Las Vegas store back in 2014, they did not have the same items for sale by Judy.

I've been looking at google images with the search keywords: natural pteria sterna. It hasn't really been helpful. But then I ran across this image:

with the description: "Four natural pearls with different shape and appearance were used as beads in P.maxima oysters. Upper row shows the coated pearls, middle row shows x-ray ..." The webpage that the short google description doesn't appear to exist anymore, but it was intriguing enough to share here.

Congratulations on your new position. I am a big fan of the genetics of the red wolf/coyotes down south and the wolf/coyote/dog combinations running around nowadays. And of course our local Sonoran/Mexican wolf/coyotes. I hope you link us to stuff!

Thanks, Caitlin! It's a very interesting debate going on in the scientific community, the natural history of the red wolf. I could create a thread in the other stuff section once we start trapping :)

andrea, congrats on the new position and the new earrings! :)

also my vote on that necklace is CFWP, wrapped about as well as i would if i were hurrying to get a necklace done for myself. that is to say, i love it, but man, four grand! that's a lot of $ for not much...

Oh, yes, PLEASE Andrea ... furry photos! New thread in Other Stuff, or lots of pets domestic and wild on the Pet thread ... wherever :)

Thank you for weighing in JulieBeth! That's pretty much everyone agreeing CFWP. I'm dying to see those photos, Pattye, but thank you for linking those others of the natural p. sterna.

Well, gosh, if there's that much interest, I'll certainly start a trapping thread once we get going out here :)

I think I've mentioned this before..but just to show the difference in a store's response to a question... Bergdorf's in NYC by the Plaza ... I saw a beautiful necklace..YOKO ... and it was listed as Tahitian and South Sea ... but they were Tahitian and either Edison/Ming/Whatever ... so I said something to the manager of Fine Jewellery that they might want to check on the description that came with the necklace. He looked and it said Tahitian and SS ..... I said...well...they are Freshwater so you might want to double check with them. ( this was a very very expensive necklace) 30 min later he tracked me down in the handbags .. he'd called London and wanted me to know that the company confirmed the fact that they were freshwater ... he told me that the description was being retyped. Now..there is a guy who does his JOB!! He then spent about 40 min talking to me about pearls . Such a lovely man.

Katbran, what a positive experience! Thanks much for reporting!

Took these photos on the porch this morning, not great, but the best so far, overcast weather. Sea of Cortez keshi about the size of watermelon seeds, so these are just an example of body colors. I'm wondering if using a fine gauge wire such as 28g might have contributed to the poor wire wrapping on the Barney's necklace, as it had no body.

Wonderful illustration of body color, Pattye. And totally scrumptious pearls :)

The colors are infinitely more complex than the Barney pearls, so after much wobbling, I come down on the Barney's are CFWP.
Dang, I always hate to admit that!!!
