Ummmmmm ... amazing workmanship....but it falls into the category that I put Spider pins..... the "Not for Me Even If I Could Afford It" Category. Certainly a remarkable piece of work tho ...

I'm with you on this one, Katbran! Though I'm certain some would delight in such a unique piece!

Yes. I even have a hard time rationalizing and accepting the icky bugs/worms/parasites in natural pearls, let alone critters that are visible and threatening.

Even if scorpions aren't necessarily your cup of tea, there are some other lovely and imaginative figurative pieces on their website, including a running horse, a kneeling giraffe, some sweet birds, even a rather fetching slug, complete with eye-stalks! I can imagine the artist mulling over what some of the more unusual pearls "want to be" just like I did when I came up with my leafy sea dragon design for that 55 mm pearl. I sense a kindred spirit there...even though I can only afford to work in silver and bronze rather than gold and diamonds.

Just checked out their website, and I like some of the pins, but not the ones with spiders and scorpion.

Thanks for calling attention to the rest of the works, Sheri. I admit to ignoring the link before, generalizing from the scorpion ----> 'it'll be full of all scary creatures.'

Okay, next one will be cuddly cute -- until it's time for another insect! :)

Gigi, is that the carrot-and-stick, or snuggle-then-pinch approach?

Emiko is renowned for their craftsmanship and delightful creations. I was at the Vegas show and stopped by their booth and ended up staying for over 20 minutes examining each of their sculptures in detail (I wanted to take pictures and was shoo'ed away like a bad pearl customer lol!). The scorpion is a fantastic addition, but then I like some of the creepy crawlies like snails and spiders. ;) I had a jeweled spider brooch I wore on a rainbow scarf until it was lost one day; he was my little friend and I got constant compliments because he was so unique. This is one pin I would definitely wear!

I just wish there was more of a widespread venue so we could see pearl art like this more often! Thank you so much for posting Blaire, it's been a real treat! :)
