Hello All,
I am back after a long absence, I have probably forgotten half of what I had learned here, but I will have a fun and interesting time catching myself up I am sure.

I just finished this little necklace: I know the pics totally fail on showing how "insanely great" these look. They look grey, but in life the colors and orient make me feel like I could trade this to end the war between Men, Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, and Wargs.

But one of the pearls cracked its little end off, and looked like a broken tooth. Without it, the necklace is choker length - not the best look for me, at all, at all.
What do you think - should I go Zen, restring it with the broken pearl? Or should I restring it with a couple of other pearls or beads at the clasp end?
It's a grey and rainy day here - pics taken with full-spectrum light.

So good to see you back! Those are really wonderful pearls. You might consider interspersing a few smaller pearls to lengthen the strand....

Thank you for your suggestion, maiakity - modeling shot will wait till the changes are implemented. The choker length just is not right for this neck.

Thanks for the welcome back, Marianne.

I have deconstructed the strand, and tried it so far with interspersements of moonstone, of small uneven oval amethyst, and of little ladbradorite. I am not crazy about any of them. All the pearls I have on hand are no match for the iridescence and color of these sweeties. (I know they don't look that way in my sorry pics.) I may be thinking too matchy, but still, nothing is working for me. I hate to wait, I wanted to wear them NOW, but I may end up taking them to the next show to find something to intersperse. Failing that, something to extend at the clasp ends.

Don't beat up on yourself - it can be hard to catch the iridescence in photos. Good luck finding the right material to extend it. :)

Nice keshi pearls . but i think the luster and quality is just medium.

Narcissa,

Oh yes, I can just imagine how gorgeous those are!! Another option, since you are restringing, would be a small 3-4mm pearl in between, similar tones. So happy you have popped in and are knotting again!

Gem Geek - yes it is hard to capture the essence in a pic, esp at my camera level :p Thanks for the reminder on the futility of perfectionist tendencies in a chaotic and contradictory universe but oh wait we were talking about jewelry weren't we.

Pattye - thanks for the re-welcome. It's great to remember how much I like doing this!

Lake Line - thank you for your assessment.

Meanwhile.... so that I can play wearing them until small pearls of the right sort come into my hand, I have temporarily restrung them with amethyst, which in my opinion goes all right but interrupts the silky swirly flow of color.

Narcissa,

Isn't it lovely to know one's pearls can have infinite reincarnations via restringing? I feel you will be receiving many compliments on this version!

@Frank of Lake Line Pearl, as you can see in the newest photo, the luster is very beautiful. Many of us prefer a more organic look to our pearls.

and here they are at work -lol-

Maybe this should go on the *pearls in action* thread.
As I have almost nowhere to wear the pearls I love, I wear them anywhere, anytime, anyway.
Today was hoof trim day!

Narcissa -- what a great photo of you wearing your pearls! Wonderful! They are meant to be worn.

I like the look. If you want some other stones, I find grey-ish, metallic keshis go well with Tanzanite.

I love the way it turned out. I would have tried little stones and it turns out that larger darker gems were just the thing. That is one of the best pearl-wearing photos -ever! Long may the farmer-in-pearls reign! :)

I love those with the amethysts! And you are so right to wear them whenever you want. :)

I love this!!! YES, this should definately go in the "Pearls in Action" thread, I hope you will post more! Might as well look stunning while trimming hooves!

I agree with the others, best pearl wearing photo ever  I love how it turned out with the amethyst!

Thank you, BAS, Ramona, Gem Geek, Sea Urchin, maiakity, and Pattye!

Ramona, I love tanzanite, and would have tried it if I had any lying around. The amethyst does pick up the pink and lavender rainbows in these (which my pics don't show even 20% of). Also due to my camera ability (or disability) they are not nearly as grey as they look in these shots.
