TRIP AROUND THE WORLD? Feb 28th - Mar 26th

I've got more work to do before I have any definitive answers.

The next Pearl Talk on YouTube should be an interesting one ... me, Josh, Peter Bazar, Joel Schechter and Ralph Rossini.

A proud moment in my life that I wanted to share with you guys. I cant wait to post the interview, it was great!

Great shot Josh. Is the interview pre-dinner? The white tablecloth looks formal for FP. I look forward to the interview. I can't wait to hear him speaking English. I've seen video of him speaking French.

This was taken at his auction which I video taped and documented in detail. We were in the "cafeteria" area which was really nice. His english was really really good and he is a great speaker. I got some real interesting stuff. I am dying to post these Pearl Talks but I don't want to post it before it is edited and compromise the quality of the video just because i'm inpatient.

Glad the interview went well, Josh! Did you ask my question?

Jeremy - thanks for the inclusion on a little bit of the mystery. The interesting part is when and how?

and now the big question............... who is this boss?

ohhhh, means photo is taken in Hong Kong? Thought the gentlemen were still in China and this was the Chinese Minster of natural resourches hahaha
Yeah it must be something to meet the Emperor of the black pearls

Off to Jewelmer's farms myself in about an hour. Woohoo. Catching up with the gang again. No internet access so we will see who makes it out later.

The group left today via helicopter for the farms... can't wait to hear the next reports!

yes Nerida, this trip is so nice to follow, most of the information will come afterwards.

I am so interested to learn what the global warming effects are on pear lfarming as I read that oysters in the wild are the biggest victims worldwide.

How the cyanide and dynamite fishing is being controlled and also prevention of chemicals from agriculture ending up in the seas
Also eager to know if Badjao population are still diving for wild oysters and if there is still some pearl farming in Mindanao, Tawi Tawi or any of the other island in the Abu Sayaff muslim insurgent controlled area.

And for Filipino's the waking up story that pearls sold in the Greenhills Market for fresh water pearls are coming from China, and the white South Sea Pearls from Hong Kong and Japan and the Tahiti's not from the Philippines but from Tahiti.
Only the gold Pinctada Maxima's are probably from the Phillipines but I am not sure from Mindanao as there are no farms anymore in that area, as far as I have learnt.

An 'official' confirmation would be so welcome in this matter.

Give the Jewelmer people an award for their ongoing efforts to preserve the pristine waters of Palawan and that others may take it over to make the Philippines a model country for these efforts. The awareness is already a lot more than here in Thailand.

Confirmation that greens hills sells freshwater pearls? Yes they do and sometimes call them "baby South Seas" Hope that was what you were asking:eek:

Hi Caitlin, Thanks for your reply. Baby South Sea are mostly offered by Chinese sellers on E-bay. But what I meant is that when one goes to the Greenhils pearl market section, sellers want to make buyers believe that the fresh water pearls sold there come from the Philippines and that is a fairy tale. Some sellers have a good selection of South Sea Pearls and want to make buyers believe that they all come from Zamboanga area in Mindanao, even the black South Sea pearls. Also this is not true as I can not get confirmation that there is even one pearl farm in that area. The Badjao people in that area, who in the past were diving for Pinctada Maxima oysters are probably not doing so any longer. So the mystery that the Muslim ladies on that market still telling customers that Fresh Water and also South Sea and Tahiti pearls in their shops are from Mindanao, is not true. Around 6 pearlfarms are still operating in the Philippines and all of them operating in the Palawan area of which Jewelmer is the most known. In Indonesia there a lot more pearl farms operating from Lombok island eastwards including the Molucca's, Banda, Kei islands to even Papua New Guinea. It musthave been the Gerdau company in the past which also in Jolo was active in buying Pinctada Maxima Mother of Pearl shells which the Badjao's collected from the sea.

Thank you. Of course you are right, though we did have people asking abut the Baby SS in Greenhills a couple of years ago. We have a few threads where people insist the freshwaters are from the Philippines and Jeremy debates with them, decisively. Your fine post is a nice reminder, though.

The rest of your post is great info for the laymen, like me. We need to put it up now and then. sorry to divert the thread.

Josh called from Flower Island Today (Thursday morning there) he said they have shot more footage there than in China. They took the cameras underwater and in the air with multiple helicopter shots. He said they shot from 5am till midnight. They have interviewed farm workers. They will be shooting all day. Then back to Minilla in th AM..
