Black Opal Dilemma

A final photo--I received the piece today (having not seen it in person)--photos do not do it justice. It really is hypnotic. Thanks for all the support, help and suggestions. Here is one last photo courtesy of Scott

That's clearly a 'WOW'! No further doubts regarding the color of the gold, it works magnificently.

Hi Steve--I agree, and it is so much better in person. I am glad that I trusted his decisions and judgement, even when I might have made a different choice. Scott is truly an amazing artist and craftsman. The result is beyond my wildest expectations.

Hi Everyone, I would just like to thank all of you for your very kind comments and for helping me with your input regarding the photos. I considered each persons personal favorite photo and their reasons for choosing it. I really struggled with the photography of this particular piece. I was in error believing that the competition I am entering this piece into allowed just one photo.....but thanks to the ever-vigilant Beth.....she found the online rules for entries (I was only referring to the mailed 'call for entries') and they revealed that composite photos are, indeed, allowed. I opted in the end to stick with just one large oblique view of the piece. This view shows the side tsavorite-set leaf components, as well as the entire front, but does not demonstrate the optical function of the dish, so central to the design. So....I used the above image and one other closeup of the enhancer/bale as small 1.25" x 1.5" images included in the text description of the piece. I added a lot to my rather limited photographic skills trying to capture it in pictures. My thanks to Beth, in particular, for working with me on this design from her original concept to it's final form. It simply wouldn't have resulted in such a pleasingly balanced composition without her invaluable input. It was a true pleasure working with her. Thanks again!

@Steve....I'll see if I can't get something going for my pearl as far as designs are concerned. It's all just vague possibilties and potentials in my head at this point!

Potential because they aren't knotted yet, I know. I'm having a difficult time visualizing them - the colors pop out like lights, but how do they catch the light to do the popping? I'd love to see that
 
I think they are something you have to see in person. At first, they look like glossy brown beads, but then you start to catch a flash of color here and there. You have to look closely to see the patterns. You have to like the color brown! :)
 
Ooooh these are beautiful! Where did you get them? I lusted over that black opal strand, but it has been sold.

Yes... this was my first folly as far as opals are concerned.
Between my pearl addiction and craving for opal, I do have to be careful with my purchases.... Two expensive hobbies... LoL..
