Curious about my new pearls

Hi, my fiance's mom recently gave me a set of pearls for Christmas. She says they are freshwater pearls. I am just interested to know more about them, like where they are from, and in particular, you can see many of the pearls have these rings etched in their sides - I don't mind it, but I am just wondering what causes that. I don't care about the value because I am going to wear them, I just want to learn everything I can.

They are freshwater pearls and can be described as potato with circles (rings). The pearls are from China.

The rings occur naturally as the pearl forms in the mussel. Some of us call them "rings of love." Your pearls have a nice luster. With the strand being longer, you will be able to wear it numerous ways.
